There are an estimated four million white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) living in Texas. The most of any state. They are often solitary animals but can be found in herds ranging in various sizes. White-tails inhabit all sorts of different environments, from shrublands to forests, grasslands, wooded plains, and desert areas. They prefer open woodlands, but they can also be found in farmlands and even urban areas. Deer do not migrate but remain in an area around one square mile in size year-round. Although sometimes seen during the day, deer primarily browse before dawn and after dusk. White-tailed deer eat plants, including grasses, legumes, leaves, shoots, cacti, corn, fruit, and acorns. They can eat mushrooms and poison ivy with no ill effects.

April 17, 2010: Northbound light pushers glide downgrade through the north end of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, near the point where the Clinchfield met the C&O Big Sandy Subdivision.
While watching the skies for Lyrid meteors a few nights ago, I shot these trails. Didn't catch any meteors, but had a very clear night that was also missing the steady traffic of planes that I usually catch. Nice change.

This is another image from my visit to Kingsbury Water Park last weekend. It was a beautiful sunny, spring day with a light breeze.
These conditions were just right for the slightly rippled reflections found in this image of a clear blue sky reflecting onto the pond.

My backyard was full of surprise this past April! Even with all the strange weather we had these hardy daffodils just kept blooming! I love springtime flowers.
