There are an estimated four million white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) living in Texas. The most of any state. They are often solitary animals but can be found in herds ranging in various sizes. White-tails inhabit all sorts of different environments, from shrublands to forests, grasslands, wooded plains, and desert areas. They prefer open woodlands, but they can also be found in farmlands and even urban areas. Deer do not migrate but remain in an area around one square mile in size year-round. Although sometimes seen during the day, deer primarily browse before dawn and after dusk. White-tailed deer eat plants, including grasses, legumes, leaves, shoots, cacti, corn, fruit, and acorns. They can eat mushrooms and poison ivy with no ill effects.
This young White-tailed deer walks through a field of Texas Bluebonnets (Lupinus texensi) on the Willow City Loop near Fredericksburg, Texas.

British Columbia GE C40-8M 4609 leads CN train 337 on the old Illinois Central Iowa Division at Munger, IL. Sitting around with a couple flickr friends enjoying the Spring weather and a few beverages, joking about how the much delayed westbound probably has a BC lead locomotive. Seriously, we had no idea this unit was leading. When we heard the horn in the distance, we were all expecting a CSX leader. Fist pumps and high fives confirmed we enjoyed a pretty good day.
"I have always tried to hide my efforts and wished my works to have the light joyousness of springtime, which never lets anyone suspect the labors it has cost me."
Henri Matisse
~Speaking of laborious, it was quite challenging for me to do this self-portrait in the pond on a ten second timer! ~

The 2017 daffodil season is in full swing, these beauties are part of the thousands of individuals to be seen each March in Normanby Park near to where I live in Scunthorpe, UK
The first pussy willows open themselves to the sun...or as Gordon Lightfoot put in a song:
Shivering quivering the warm breath of spring
Pussywillows cat-tails soft winds and roses
My backyard was full of surprise this past April! Even with all the strange weather we had these hardy daffodils just kept blooming! I love springtime flowers.
