These Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) flowers dotted up through the leaf litter at the Springfield Nature Center. They look so bright against all the fall leaves.
The large fleshy root emits a red sap that was used as a dye. The plant was used by Native Americans to treat hemorrhages, rheumatism, fevers, poor digestion, colds, and coughs. Today it is used as a plaque-inhibiting agent in toothpaste and moughwashes.
What a great weekend it was. Temperatures in the double digits, sunshine and I found this nice spot with thousands of blooming crocuses. Bringing all the gear (including the 100-400 mm) was a good choice. Small DOF and a soft bokeh... I'm happy and hope you'll...
Enjoy!

Northtown's B40-8Ws zoom eastbound with an 8700-foot mixed freight approaching CP52.8.
The B40s made a circle tour, first going north to Superior, then west to Grand Forks before heading east back to Northtown, their home base for the last long while.
558 & 542 are a popular pair around here, and are just about the only thing interesting left that runs out of Northtown.
As a kid in the late-90s and early 2000s, a lot of kid-friendly railroad programs featured the Santa Fe and their red & silver engines. So in a way, there's some childhood nostalgia in seeing red & silver 27+ years after the merger, even if it's badly faded and rusty.
The 500s and 600s were once proud members of the superfleet, hauling the hottest trains across the Santa Fe system. Now, these two 500s and six 600s have been assigned to Northtown for yard service, with the 600s being RCO assigned to the hump of all places, times are certainly different

It's like Wow, all at once within one week Springtime exploded. It's been hard to keep up and be in five places at once to see all that has gone on. It sure is pretty though and i am definitely in my element...camera in hand. I sometimes think that i should make up a T-shirt with a decent photo of myself and a slogan that says.....Photography is my nature...which is exactly how i feel about photography !

Have a safe and incredible day dear Flickr friends !
The vines are now starting to show themselves and the trees are coming into leaf very quickly. We're in the middle of a mini-heatwave with temperatures today about 25/26c and expected to peak on Sunday at 30c. I hope it's equally as gorgeous wherever you are and I wish you all a great weekend!
A few spring flowers are starting to bloom again in "my" meadow. It's a strange feeling, because the whole thing is dying, drying up, heading towards the inevitable fall, but these few flowers are screaming that they prefer spring, despite the coming winter.

The title isn't really apt. So nice to be outside at the Denver Botanic Gardens. This and the last two pictures I've posted are evidence that spring is here.

Der Frühling nimmt langsam richtig Fahrt auf. Nach den Schneeglöckchen folgen nun die Märzenbecher :-)
