buddha (buddha's?) is a restaurant somewhere in toronto, not more than a couple blocks from kensington market, home to some really first-rate vegetarian food. my standards for these things are possibly sort of wack, but i dunno - i filled up and had to talk myself out of eating more, for the sake of my stomach. they don't skimp on the mushrooms, and the tea was probably the first restaurant tea i've ever had that i actively enjoyed. the spring rolls were shockingly good too. props to tina for bringing this place up.

Pork marinated in honey and lemongrass grilled over an open flame and crispy spring rolls filled with minced pork and shrimp. Probably my favorite dish at Pho Van.

Was keen to check out Snakebean as it's just up the road from me; we watch the cute chef owner on Fresh; everything is under $10 and that's a clever little policy.
The menu has the usual Thai suspects as well as some interesting-sounding dishes that I'll have to try next time, like eggplant mash with spicy chicken. We had vegie spring rolls that were packed with flavour, then I had the special of ling in tamarind and coriander jam, which was nice but a little over-fried and heavy on the jam, and Stephen had the vegie pad Thai, which was really delicious.
