This morning, 25 March 2013, Greater Manchester Police conducted a series of raids as part of a big spring clean operation intended to sweep offenders off our streets over the coming days.
Officers are working across Greater Manchester as part of an operation to ensure that crime does not peak over the spring holiday period. At a time where we often see an increase in antisocial behaviour, burglary and robbery we will be making sure that the area becomes a hostile environment for criminals while the good people of our communities are kept safe.
Part of the operation will be focused on working with partners to provide support for vulnerable victims. Officers from the public protection department will be targeting offenders of vulnerability crime such as sex offences in order to take positive action against them.
Assistant Chief Constable Ian Wiggett said: “This operation is about cleaning up our streets and sweeping up crime. If you are wanted by the police, I would advise you to turn yourself in or you will find yourself a target for our spring clean.
“Today marks the beginning of an operation, where criminals will be hearing the sound of wham rams forcefully knocking at their front doors. Officers from every division will be targeting offenders who commit any type of crime and threaten any of our communities.
“At this time of year, as the days get longer and the weather gets warmer we generally see an increase in anti-social behaviour and acquisitive crime such as robbery and burglary – particularly through people leaving windows and doors open or sheds and garages unlocked after spending time outside. We ask that you look out for each other, you take care of your personal belongings and that you report any antisocial behaviour to your neighbourhood teams so we can deal with the problem.”
Officers from the tactical aid unit, traffic, ANPR officers, mounted police, dog handlers and special constables will be out supporting each of the divisions on seeking out their most wanted.
An ad-van will be out across Greater Manchester to name and shame offenders who have no choice but to turn themselves in.
Neighbourhood teams will be engaging with local communities and street cleaning projects will be taking place in some areas with partners and community payback teams.

So pleased to see that a pair of bluetits are once again investigating the nesting box. It's time to switch the camera on.

also not a top selling point. this is probably the space we are most confused with. we have a few ideas for making it okayish, but if we owned this place we would gut this room entirely. sadly...we rent.
The art of advertising is to come up with a name that is memorable to potential customers.
This works for me,although a search comes up with several cleaning businesses in the UK using this name.
I thought an Auto Glass company could call themselves Loose Windscreen.

Actually my 4th anniversary was back in August, but I forgot. These are my 30 most "interesting" images today, according to Flickr. I agree when it comes to a few of them. ;-)
No idea why that first pic is considered so interesting. Only four of these pics were taken with my current camera - but that reflects my lack of activity and interaction on Flickr lately.

After 2 years heavy use my Imac started making a slight noise
and getting overheated, so time to clean the fan!
Here's the tut video I watched before cleaning the innards.
My fan wasn't too bad as the picture shows.....
Its easy, I just used a brush, hoover, glass cleaner, cotton buds and kitchen roll!

there is not a lot we will change here. we did think about putting curtains up but we haven't had any for a few months now and it hasn't been a problem, plus it could be really dark with curtains, so I think that's a no.
My 5th anniversary was a couple of weeks ago, but typically I forgot. These are my 30 most "interesting" images today, according to Flickr.
I would have dropped many of these photos from my personal top list, to be honest.

our flat as we moved into it!
these shelves are original to the flat and much nicer than the ones in the master bedroom. they are a very annoying size, however, just about 3cm too narrow for a daybed, which had been my original plan. but we have now found a single bed that will fit and fold out to a double, so that and a change of curtains is on the cards.
On Saturday 5 June, I spent some time in the Goods Junction signal box giving it a spring-clean. Here are a couple of views from the box looking west.

Some friends and I discussed a project by which we gather a crowd of people to join us in picking up rubbish at various locations around Tehran. We thought about maybe doing this on a monthly bases and figured we get one underway and set about doing "prevention as oppose to cure" part later.
The weekend we chose seemed to coincide with some be-green slam-down between the president and the Mayor of Tehran. Apparently there was some tree planting episode also on the day we headed.
Joining us for the trip we had some representatives from a couple of NGOs and also a German photographer, Kai Wiedenhöfer, partly in town to photograph the upcoming elections and also in the region for his Walls project, by which he's photographing detention walls, i.e. Gaza/West bank.
We chose a tourist spot up in the North of Tehran called Tochal, for which we were told needed a good cleaning, yet upon arriving we'd been misinformed and the place not only had bins every 20 metres but also had workers regularly cleaning. I guess we gave them a day off.
So, armed with gloves, plastic bags and enthusiasm , we did very little other than enjoy the nice weather and chat about a future event.
Personally I conducted an interview with the German photographer for which he spoke of his travels to the Occupied Territories of Palestine and his project of Wall; Mexico/America, Northern Ireland etc.
If anyone is interested in joining us next time, please get in touch.
I'm digging back a few weeks for this one. This doll was in a pile of garbage I came accross during my stroll at Spring Clean.
I was rough on toys when I was a kid. In fact, I have absolutely zero toys from my childhood squirreled away. I played with them until they were of no use to anyone. That's how it should be when you're a kid... play with 'em 'til they break.
Big spring clean operation: I cleared a "clean space" to remove the dust from my camera sensors, and proceeded to clean every lens that needed it.
Digitised image from the Town Hall Photographer's Collection - GB127.M850
The Town Hall Photographer’s Collection is a large photographic collection held in Manchester City Council’s Central Library archives, ranging in date from 1956 to 2007.
The collection consists of tens of thousands of images, covering the varied areas of work of Manchester Corporation and latterly, Manchester City Council.
The photographs were taken by staff photographers, who were tasked to document the work of Corporation/Council departments and, in doing so, captured many aspects of Manchester life and history, including significant changes to the Manchester landscape.
The collection includes many different formats from glass negatives, to slides, prints, CDs and even a couple of cine films.
What is especially exciting is that the majority of these images have never before been available in a digital format and therefore have only ever been seen by a handful of people.
A team of dedicated Staff and Volunteers are currently working on the systematic digitisation of the negatives held within the collection.
This album represents the result of their work to date.
This my local, it's friendly neighbourhood pub. Where better to find a quiet corner? Where better to find conversation with old friends, old enemies, nodding acquaintances, and passing strangers?
Good pubs are cosmopolitan places, places of people, places with the patina of passing time, places of light and shade. I am early. The evening's menu is not yet on the chalkboard, the chef reveals the specials of the day, the barman acts as scribe. The light and airy restaurant at the back of the pub once was a billiard room. Time has moved on.
I sit quietly and allow my thoughts to settle. I hold conversations in my head. I try to rid myself of trivial frustrations and concentrate on deeper issues. Perhaps this evening, when the regulars have arrived and the usual greetings are over, I will gently lead the conversation around to moral philosophy.
Overt conversation is a luxury that not always available. I guess we all hold conversations in our head. I hold conversations with imaginary friends. Sometimes I find myself talking out loud. In the old days people stared at me as if I was mad, these days they don't even notice, perhaps they think that I'm 'on my mobile'.
Today I feel like getting to the point. What, I wonder, is the point?
The point is to restore economic growth. That is not my point, that the prevailing point of view. That is the horizon of conventional wisdom. That is the box from which we need to escape. So my friends let us think outside the box, let us imagine a socially directed economy that is not in thrall to 'the market'. I feel my voice rising, but I want a quiet conversation. I don't want to preach. I simply want to explore ideas and a possibilities. Perhaps I should add 'economic well-being' to my list of potential pub conversations.
I want to explore and rehearse some ideas before my pub friends arrive. Where, I wonder, are my imaginary friends?
Mac is adrift. I'm happy to assist Mac in his Robinsonian project to explore the origins of capitalism through intuitive walking and careful observation of the landscape. Mac is well-meaning but erratic. I think of him as my Monday morning sprite, my workaday sprite full of bright ideas for me to explore and resolve.
Before I met Mac I used to knock about with an elusive spirit called Friday. As you may have guessed, Friday is my Friday evening sprite, my sprite of freedom and creative imagination.
And what of Robinson? I am both inspired and troubled him. Now that Mac is out of the way I want look more closely at the basis of Robinsonism.

And thanks to all of you who have inspired me into becoming a better photographer by taking and posting great photos that inspire me.
That's perhaps the most important part.
