This Greater Painted Snipe (Rostratula benghalensis) pair was found in Korattur Lake in Chennai yesterday, 16-Oct-18.
Note that the colorful, larger and darker bird is the female (♀), while the dull speckled colored bird is the male (♂).
Since males take care of the nest and the chicks, it is ideal for them to be less conspicuously colored.
It was dusk with fading light and I am yet to have steady hands while shooting handheld photos with a 3000mm equivalent lens, the P1000!
