And something that resembles a pirate's execution ramp... and I did not split the poor guy :-)

I just loved the light and pattern on the cobblestone streets of old town of Split, in Croatia.

Since we are not allowed to be on the trails in Joshua Tree National Park after dark (in order to give the animals a break from humans), I did the next best thing with Split Rock. I processed this enormous rock formation to look like it might look at night!

A more minimalistic photo than my usual mountain fare but it is fascinating how an inversion can fuel creativity.

In other news, accomplished UK landscape photograpger Marc Elliott was recently involved in a tragic road accident and suffered some life-changing inhuries. Jon Gibbs has set up an auction, and ca. 30 UK photographers have donated their work to be sold with the sole aim of helping Marc. Please have a look, and bid away! I am happy to have donated one mountain imaget taken last year too, so this is a unique chance to own some good landscape prints while helping one of us. Cheers.

Split Rock Lighthouse along Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior has long been a favorite subject of photographers. I shot this back in the autumn of 2006. The lighthouse was built in 1910 and decommissioned in 1969.

Shipwrecks from a mighty 1905 November gale prompted this rugged landmark's construction. Completed by the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1910, Split Rock Light Station was soon one of Minnesota's best known landmarks. Restored to its 1920s appearance, the lighthouse offers a glimpse of lighthouse life in this remote and spectacular setting.

This tree is amazing as not only is it growing out of a rock and has been split down the middle, but both halves are still alive! It's growing in a very steep-sided and densely wooded valley, so I was unable to get a better shot - HTMT!
