Lake Superior Minnesota

An enormous boulder split in half in Joshua Tree National Park. There are several boulders in the vicinity of the Split Rock Trail that are split and many are eroded into interesting shapes. Wilbur made an effort to get close to the split, but decided the scramble over and under large boulders wasn't worth it as we planned on hiking to the Eagles Nest Cabin.

I was on top of a hill trying in vain to capture a sunset, but the lens flare was intense, so in a last minute decision, I started to wander around looking for a creative solution. I think I found one in this shot!

Since we are not allowed to be on the trails in Joshua Tree National Park after dark (in order to give the animals a break from humans), I did the next best thing with Split Rock. I processed this enormous rock formation to look like it might look at night!

A winter's day without wind, a lake that is partially frozen, a dead tree trunk in the lake and you have a motif with reflection.

Ein Wintertag ohne Wind, ein See der teilweise zugefrorenen ist, ein abgestorbener Baumstamm im See und schon hat man ein Motiv mit Spiegelung.

I just loved the light and pattern on the cobblestone streets of old town of Split, in Croatia.

And something that resembles a pirate's execution ramp... and I did not split the poor guy :-)

Found this Woodland Fern while out hiking that developed a split tip. The other fronds on this individual plant were normal in appearance. A botanist stated that this mutation is very unusual.

Sunrise on the shores of Lake Superior in Minnesota.

A split road in Barcelona, where the Carrer de la Palla splits in itself and Carrer dels Banys Nous. In the center on the ground floor cake, pastry and coffee specialty shop Caelum, meaning Heaven in English.

Shipwrecks from a mighty 1905 November gale prompted this rugged landmark's construction. Completed by the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1910, Split Rock Light Station soon became one of Minnesota's best known landmarks.
