I found an interesting granite deposit on top of Steamboat Rock today. Actually, there's quite a few, but this one was the most interesting!

The Red Arrows' vertical bomb split was so beautiful that I captured it differently each day. On the first day, I used landscape format; on the second day, I recorded a video with my mobile; and on the last day, I chose vertical format.
It is a long time since I drove the Great Ocean Road along Victoria's south coast. Most times in the past, it has been either dull or raining or just crazy crowded.
On this particular day, once we got through Angelsea to head east, the sun shone brightly, and we almost had the road to ourselves! It was one of those rare joyous drives on one of my very favourite roads. A day of motoring bliss for this old bus driver!

This is an old big beech tree. It is unusual to split from the base of the trunk. The soil layer is shallow, and just below is a lava layer.
Split Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located southwest of Silver Bay, Minnesota, USA on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The structure was designed by lighthouse engineer Ralph Russell Tinkham and was completed in 1910 by the United States Lighthouse Service at a cost of $75,000, including the buildings and the land. It is considered one of the most picturesque lighthouses in the United States.

I picked a small, round, hairy, very hard fruit that I couldn't open with my hands from a small, spreading tree to photograph at home in good light, and put it in a sunglasses case. The next day I remembered the find and opened the case. And this is what I saw.
When I opened the case and saw the state of this fruit I simply exclaimed in surprise. What made it open up so much in 24 hours - the heat, the darkness? Initially it was hard as a pebble and I was going to open it with a knife.
Я зірвав маленький, круглий, волохатий, дуже твердий плід, який я не міг відкрити руками, з розлогого дерева, щоб сфотографувати вдома при хорошому освітленні, і поклав його в футляр для сонцезахисних окулярів. Наступного ранку я згадав про знахідку і відкрив футляр.
І ось що я побачив.
Виявляється, що плід, який я зірвав, це Плюска (лат. cúpula - чашечка) - чашоподібний орган, що оточує плід деяких рослин.
Плюска є характерною рисою рослин сімейства Букові (Fagaceae)
Утворюється в результаті зрощення листя і приквітки редукованого суцвіття. На відміну від плюски дуба, у бука вона покриває плід цілком.
Плоди (так звані букові горіхи) - тригранні горіхи з гострими (майже до короткокрилатих) ребрами, 1-1,6 (2) см завдовжки, рівні по довжині лопатям плюски або коротше її, з тонкою, дерев'янистою, коричневою, блискучою оболонкою, з матовим трикутним майданчиком, здебільшого по два, рідше по чотири в плюсці, яка восени під час листопада розтріскується на чотири (або три) частки не зовсім до низу. У кожному горіху по 1-2 насінини.
Горіхи використовуються в їжу: у сирому вигляді через вміст алкалоїду фагіну вони у великій кількості шкідливі, краще їх вживати підсмаженими. З борошна букових горіхів з додаванням пшеничного борошна в Карпатах печуть млинці, оладки, печиво, а також використовують для випікання звичайного хліба. З горіхів отримують горіхову олію, напіввисихаючу, світло-жовту, дуже приємного смаку, що використовується для харчових та технічних цілей. З підсмажених горішків одержують напій кавового типу.
