A part of this huge tree had broken off, leaving intersting splinters - and -- it seems, an eye peering out! whose, I wonder?

I just pulled that out of my finger. It was embedded, pointing straight down into the finger. It sat there overnight because I didn`t think there was actually any splinter in there.. I knew it was trouble when the hole was still sore this morning. Had to extract with a razorblade and some tweezers.

since i'm still limited in space and the weather isn't warm enough to paint yet, i'm still just drawing

The irritation of a splinter may last mere minutes,

But the fear of getting one lasts a lifetime.

All along the Big Sandy where we were hiking you could see fallen trees from the lumber harvesting effort going on. In the mini-Canyon photo you can see felled trees covering part of it. I didn't want to focus too much on them.
