A fabulous day out in a winter wonderland of Eryri (Snowdonia). A chance to have an overdue meet up with a Flickr associate in Clive Griffiths. We had a wonderful circular mountain walk from the Ogwyn Valley taking in the majestic Glyder's.
This is the scene looking South West from Glyder Fach to the romantically named "Castle of the Winds" or Castell y Gwynt, with Glyder Fawr behind on the right and the mass of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), behind in the distance to the left.
What this shot doesn't portray is the bitter strong winds on the summits with lots of ice and snow patches littering the plateau.

A little morning magic among the wood here in Wlodawa....one of my favorite little birch forests to walk through. :)

Finally got away for a week, to the south of England. We mainly visited old cathedrals and abbeys but did some exploration of the New Forest, the largest area of woodland in England about half way along the south coast. Stumbled across these trees on a hillside which I thought looked really dramatic. The one on the right seems to have been split in half by lightening. It was a grey, overcast day so done this in black and white, as best I can.
It is said there is no color in darkness. So, illuminate the void with a just splinter of sunlight –– and behold this thing... A wondrous secret long held by the ancestral souls of the Navajo. From our unpublished archives - October, 2012. Navajo Nation, Canyon of the Antelope, Page, Arizona

From Wikipedia: "Crepuscular rays (more commonly known as sunbeams, sun rays, splintered light, or god rays), in meteorological optics, are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the Sun is located. Shining through openings in clouds (particularly stratocumulus[citation needed]) or between other objects such as mountains, these columns of sunlit scattering particles are separated by darker shadowed volumes. Despite seeming to converge toward the light source, the rays are essentially parallel shafts of sunlit and shadowed particles. Their apparent convergence is a visual illusion from linear perspective. This illusion is the same as railway lines or long hallways appearing to converge at a distant vanishing point.

This big, old tree looked fine to the casual passerby, but the decision to cut it down was apparently justified, confirmed by the extensive rot seen in the cross section of the stump. But adjacent to that was this fascinating texture, highlighted by sunlight.
Intentional failure to see the big picture

The shell of an old mill rots along a hydropower canal off the Shetucket River in Norwich, Ct. The bricklayers did a good job with this one: The walls stand mostly straight around deep piles of rubble that used to be the floors and roof.
Back in 2015 I briefly poked my head into the only intact building on this end of the complex, then poked it right back out. Nothing to see inside … except perhaps the rainbow bridge to eternity, should something give way above or below an unlucky photographer.
That said, there appeared to be no new collapses between 2015 and 2017.
If you have a few seconds to spare today, please vote for me in the Florida State park contest. www.floridastateparks.org/photo-contest/2016/9?utc=147291... Thank you all for the love and kind words. -Lou
