1.07 ounce linium spindle, pink ivory whorl, and Black Walnut shaft. Fiber is sample from Spunky Eclectic.

from Spindles and More, Winchester, VA and for sale here at Greenberry House!

This is my first handmade spindle! I had the dowel, so I only needed to buy a hook for the top and a wood blank for the whorl. I hand drew a flower pattern on the top and bottom and then used a wood burning tool to burn the pattern into the wood. I love it. :)

Judging by the number of surviving examples, turned spindle-back chairs were the most prevalent type of seating in the American colonies until the late seventeenth century. The turnings of this chair—distinguished by the large finials—reflect a style typical of furniture made around Boston and Charlestown, Massachusetts.

Euonymus - Spindle Tree, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Boston, Ohio.

Saw these flowers on this tree the other day while taking a hike. Thought it was very strange to have a tree blooming in Northeast Ohio in early November. Tree was small, maybe 15' - 20' tall with thin branched and growing between the Cuyahoga River and the Old Canal. Did a little research and was unable to figure out what kind of tree this is. If you know, please post a comment.

on a whim i decided to make a spindle

made with a pom pom maker (i can never make pom poms even with one lol) a hook, and a point protector. The point proctor is one of the sock shaped ones and i cut the top rim off and used that to attach the pom pom maker to the dowel and it stays on with friction.

the dowel cracked at the top where the hook is so i used some packing tape to wrap it up.
