Walnut was chosen for the 11 3/4 inches long shaft of this elegant Tibetan support spindle. Dave has burn etched the canary wood whorl with his signature leaf motif. This supported spindle weights 47 grams.

Spindlespun and spindleplied. I spun the singles on my beautiful Mini Bossie. The next yarn is already on the Bossie: a purple-pink very thin thread intended to become a cabled yarn
We bought this beautiful antique spindle back chair in 1994 on a country trip to a small town in the mid north of South Australia. I love the carving in the timber at the top. It shows a kangaroo and warratahs. I think these chairs where produced in Melbourne in the early 1900s.

Trying to find a way to mount 3/4" shank tools in this MT3 spindle. Don't want to use MT3 collets. If you've got any advice, holler at yer boy.
Clay whorl made by Hatton, spindle handcarved from a dowel. This was my fist attempt at a medieval style spindle.

Screws on the spindle. Needed to remove the collet adapter after it's been used and is locked in the MT3 spindle.
KnitPicks Turkish spindle with KnitPicks Merino/Silk top dyed with lily leaves, blossoms, stems. Alum and CoT mordant. Added baking soda which turned almost colorless dye bath yellow.
Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire; built in 1892. Although it was never an aid to navigation, the faux lighthouse is a well known landmark locally.

The spindles, genus Euonymus, comprise about 170–180 species of deciduous and evergreen shrubs and small trees. They live mostly in East Asia, including the Himalayas, and they also have a distribution in Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America and Madagascar.
The flowers are situated in small groups, inconspicuous and of green or yellow shades. The leaves are opposite (rarely alternate) and simple ovoid, typically 2–15 cm long, and usually with a finely serrated margin.
The fruit is a pink-red four- or five-valved pod-like berry, which splits open to reveal the fleshy-coated orange seeds. The seeds are eaten by frugivorous birds, which digest the fleshy seed coat and disperse the seeds in their droppings. All parts of the plants are poisonous to humans if eaten.
The wood was traditionally used for the making of spindles for spinning wool; this use is the origin of the English name of the shrubs.
Spindles are popular garden shrubs, grown for their foliage, the deciduous species often exhibiting very bright red fall colours, and also for the decorative berries.
Walnut and tiger maple are the woods chosen by Dave for this beautiful spindle. He has used pyrography (burn etching) to adorn the notched 2 1/2 inch walnut whorl with his signature leaf motif. The overall length of the tiger maple shaft, including the brass hook, is 10 inches and the weight is 1.1 ounce.
