Crazy Tuesday: Low key

I also did a Minion photo, and maybe it's better, but there's something I like about this one.

On my way from the far out stage, I couldn't resist stopping to quickly take this. People did wonder what I was doing lying on the grass and someone nearly stood on me! Fun memories from a great festival :-)

The theme for this week’s “Smile on Saturday” is “spinning around” in which I needed to catch a spinning action or the impression of movement in a circle in my photo.

I know it may not be the most original of ideas, but I took out a newly minted one Australian dollar coin which was wonderfully bright, and I spun it on my maternal Grandfather’s chess board. Luckily, I seem to have the knack for spinning coins. I had quite a bit of fun spinning the coin over and over, trying to catch its spinning movement in the light pouring through the window. I came out with a few shots I was happy with, but this was the standout with the spinning coin becoming a golden orb or a ghostly golden ball. I will leave the interpretation to you, however I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it brings a smile to your face, as it did mine taking it!

The chessboard was made by my Grandfather, a skilful and creative man in 1952. Two chess sets, a draughts set and three chess boards made by my Grandfather were bequeathed to me as part of his estate when he died a few years ago.

“You ever put your arms out and spin really, really fast? ... That’s what love is like.” - quote from the movie Practical Magic, one of my favorites.

Night Spins - A fun and creative take on a beautiful winter night scene on the eastern plains of Colorado. The Abbott Church sits alone on a small hill outside Denver. While I was there I was able to photograph the green comet over the church. You can see the comet on the left of the church. I added my own fun "Spin" on the night sky so it would better mimic the ripples in the snow.

This is the 2nd of 4 images from this night you will see.

You can now view it on my website - link in comments.

Acropolis Museum, Athens. This perfect little children's top amongst the grander vessels caught my eye. I'd love to see it spin -- I suspect the geometric decorations are designed to create interesting optical effects. I tracked it down on the museum website. It is from 800–760 BC (the Geometric period of Archaic Greece):

"Intact 'spinning top' found in 1961 during the excavation of the Angelopoulos plot [Archaeological excavation in a private property plot to the south of the Acropolis. It was conducted in 1961 and brought to light material remains that span from the Middle Bronze Age to the Byzantine times. The Geometric period cemetery, in particular, and its finds, many of which are exhibited in the Acropolis Museum, stand out.]. It comes from Burial 3 and was deposited as a burial offering together with eight more intact pots and other vessels’ fragments.

"The body is elongated and pointed whereas its upper surface is flat and covered in concentric circles with a knob in the middle. The body is decorated with zones of various geometric motifs, such as triangles, dots, diagonal and wavy lines.

"The object’s original use remains unidentified. Most possibly it was an actual spinning top."

Acrobatics and spinning a web are second nature to all Spiders.

They make it look so easy and each Spider has their own style on how Home Sweet Home should be created.
