The title is too simplistic.It does show the spices in the restaurant window but I loved the reflections outside, the lights inside . Its such a complex image , no clear forms , I'm there too. Sort of reminded me of the melting pot that is Mumbai.

The spice traders, all grouped together in Souq Waqif, give their part of the souq a unique atmosphere, with the colorful whole and ground spices displayed in boxes, sacks and huge tubs. You buy them by weight, and if you take an empty glass or plastic container, the traders will fill it for you with stripes of the different ground spices to make an unusual jar of mixed spice.
A flock of Spice Finches on one of my bird feeders. The name "Spice Finch" was a pet store invention as it's first common name is Scaley-Breasted Munia. S. Asia native now naturalized in Houston, Texas. Aug. 2021.
I shot this for a brief of "Maps". I drew the map on an old piece of canvas and filled it in using a variety of spices I found in the kitchen cupboard. I discovered I have very shaky hands, very limited patience and I breathe and cough a lot. Australia was particularly hard on the nose. But happily my house now smells lovely! :-)

The spice trade developed throughout South Asia and Middle East by at earliest 2000 BCE with cinnamon and black pepper, and in East Asia with herbs and pepper. The Egyptians used herbs for mummification and their demand for exotic spices and herbs helped stimulate world trade. The word spice comes from the Old French word espice, which became epice, and which came from the Latin root spec, the noun referring to "appearance, sort, kind": species has the same root. By 1000 BCE, medical systems based upon herbs could be found in China, Korea, and India. Early uses were connected with magic, medicine, religion, tradition, and preservation.
