Amazing speed.

First ticket ever. Got this on 4th of July. 87mph in a 65mph zone

An unknown driver speeds away in his Bentor. I gave a smile, and he gave a smile and a wave back. I do look like a tourist. A mix blood of half-becak-and-motorcycle, the Bentor is the primary means to get around town. The Bentor is available 24/7 and has out run the horse carriage (or Bendi which is near extinction) and the mini-buses (or Angkutan which runs only till 7pm).

I was cutting through the graveyard of St Batholomew's church Marsden (out with dog) and I noticed the speed camera on the A62 is ideally placed to capture any of the recently-departed : speeding off to brighter climes (thats anywhere but Marsden, basically).

My ad was designed to warn against the dangers of speeding. It shows a car running into a giant pocket watch, with the words "you can't rush time." It also states that doubling your speed makes you hit four times as hard, ending with the words "don't speed."

I wanted to emphasize that speeding is a race against time. Time is not flexible and cannot be changed. Trying to beat the clock is impossible, and we would be putting our lives in jeopardy for it.

In designing this ad, I wanted to make it clear that speeding never ends well. My main colours were red (representing blood) and black (representing death), with the watch being a slightly faded and tarnished brassy colour to attract attention, but not take away from the two main colours.

The watch takes up a large amount of space, depicting it as a large obstacle that the car cannot overcome; this refers back to the idea that trying to beat time is impossible. The red splatter was exaggerated to highlight the damage and death speeding can bring.

In the process of creating this ad, I learned that speeding can be a temptation for anyone. It may not involve using a cell phone or drinking alcohol, but its results can be just as deadly.

Being a student driver myself, I realize how easy it is to speed, and while looking through the stats and facts about speeding, I was utterly shocked to understand how dangerous it really was. Working on my ad and recognizing the hazards involved with speeding have convicted me not only to obey the speed limits posted, but to encourage my friends to do the same.

My name is Matthew Keith Disu, and I go to Riverside Secondary School. I am grade 12 and I am hoping to go to Emily Carr University after High School. My main areas of study are Film, Photography, and Graphic Design.

Speed plays a big part in driving, whether you like it or not; and the faster you go the more dangerous it becomes for both you and everyone around you.

The ad shows graphically and slightly humorously that the faster you go the more dangerous it is to drive as it increases reaction time, stopping distance and the force of impact. There is a short bar in the middle of the image that shows different speed intervals and how dangerous it is to drive at those said intervals. At the bottom is a short phrase saying "Speed kills, Stay safe" which references back to the bar with the different speeds on it by having the words "Safe" in green, and the words "Dead" and "Kills" in red.

I chose this medium as it is a very flexible medium and is only limited to what ones imagination can create. I chose to design a simple yet I think effective and powerful graphic rather than a very complex one as I think sometimes a really busy image can take away from the message and impact of the image.

I learned that there are more things that speed impairs other than the force of impact during a crash. I read this, along with other driving facts, on the ICBC website.

...actually the car was not speeding at all. I was trying to get a sense of movement and motion. Especially given the difficult light (this is after the sun set), I think the lense managed pretty well.

This car is a tuner's favorite. but surprisingly the driver of this blue Honda Civic Si coupe was a lady in her early 60s...
