I hadn't done any nighttime photography with my models in a while, so I tried out an idea I had based on some of the shots I'd seen from Star Trek: TNG.
It took about an hour to take 3 shots. Then after looking them over, and doing some editing; I decided to make a few collages by cutting/pasting the single shuttlecraft from the live shoot into the photo.
Just having fun creating a composite. For more info, check out my short blog at www.digitalladysyd.com/?p=5744

This piece was made using a computer program that takes an image, applies relief based on contrast, then produces a set of instructions for a different program to use that controls a CNC milling machine to cut the shape out of wax. This wax is then cast with the lost wax method to produce a rough silver piece.
This pendant took about 90 minutes for the machine to carve the wax form. The wax was cast to sterling silver and I cleaned and polished it up. My intention was to create a wood texture but I have been told that this piece looks like a scene from space (galaxies) or watermarks.

This was created in Photoshop using an awesome tutorial from Sixrevisions. I used two different textures from Bittbox.

Over on YouTube there's an excellent channel called IceflowStudios which contains hundreds of high-quality Adobe Photoshop CS5 tutorial videos. If you're interested in creating cool effects and learning new techniques, I highly recommend subscribing to it.
On the 15th of January 2012 IceflowStudios published their Space Scene tutorial. I was so impressed with the quality of the image, that I had a go at following the video. "This Summer" is the result that I ended up with.
Instead of using the Planet Texture from the tutorial, I used the same photo of the moon that I used in my Duffy The Disney Bear graphic. As for the text, I used a font called Bank Gothic which has a very cinematic look to it.
Hello. Welcome to the tutorial.
This tutorial has been transferred from my main account, where it was private and only accessible to the public via an album link. Hopefully it can be of more use to a larger number of people. Keep in mind that this isn't a brief how-to. I've configured many of the the steps to help give people who are entirely foreign to editing a conceptual understanding that can be carried over onto other editing platforms.
In this tutorial, I'll walk you through the editing process of one of my more popular edits, Ocean Core. In comparison to other spacey edits and whatnot I've done, it is far more comprehensive and consequently more difficult. I'm going to try and be as deliberate and obvious as possible so that anyone can implement the steps used here to their own ends. This tutorial will not enable you to recreate Ocean Core down to the last pixel. Values of blur radii, how much I moved something right or left or up or down, and my painted blurs all vary slightly from the original. However, this is very close. At any rate, I hardly expect most people to take the time to actually do it themselves, so it serves more as an example to help them edit their own photos.
The program I use is called Paint.NET. It's free and very intuitive. Download it here.
Sadly, it is not compatible with Mac computers. Windows Master Race
After you've downloaded it, read these topics in the manual:
Main Window
Menu Options
Tools Window
Layers Window
Colors Window
History Window
Once you understand the purpose of all these tools and how to access them, I'll show you how to combine them with the free plugins I mentioned to remove backgrounds, add glowing effects, lasers, magical FX, and a number of other things. Once you can perform the basics, a bit of creativity and deeper research into more arcane uses of the tools is all that is needed to tackle any concept.
...
If you survived the mountain of reading, here is the first step:
Open your main photo.
There are multiple ways to do this. Simply drag it onto the Paint.NET icon, click "Open with... (Paint.NET)", or go under the "Layers" dropdown on the upper left toolbar and click "Import from File". Choose the photo.
You can import multiple photos using the last method
:Obvious alert: Start with the best photo you can get.
Editing a photo can do all sorts of things including turning the mediocre into something stunning, but it can't work miracles. Keep an eye out for what can and can't be fixed post-production when taking photos.
If you do intend to do a spacescene or otherwise make something fly, make sure any supports that are holding up the object you want to float/fly are NOT VISIBLY ATTACHED. This means that their connection point to the MOC is hidden behind or otherwise not visible from whatever angle the photo is taken from.
Lastly, I used blue paper since the final background was intended to also be blue. This is helpful but not completely necessary.
I've liked the idea of creating a design with an abstract space scene for a while so I decided to give it a go. I created the design using photoshop and decided that as vintage design seems to be popular at the moment I'd use a chunky vintage font to use as a clipping mask.
I attached the kinder surprise eggs to the car using the plastic tube which I pushed through slits I cut in the egg. I also heated the ends of the tubes and pressed them against a piece of wood to flange the tubes out so they can't be pulled out. The "laser" cannon was made by pushing a heated pin into the end of the tenpin and drilling some holes and gluing odds and ends of wire into it. I also cut the top of the helmet off and glued it over the face opening so it could be used as the base of the laser gun.
I then painted the car in some old model paints I had lying around. Took a photo of the car and base outside and then fiddled with the background using the fill tool from Photoimpact.

Some time ago I bought a load of broken toys to get one space toy. So for sometime I thought about doing something with those broken bits and this is my first attempt.
Besides the old racing car which has broken axle pins and missing two wheels, I used 4 kinder surprise eggs, an old space helmet and a red plastic dome. The bowling pin was from a 2 dollar shop purchase for a tabletop tenpin bowling set.
Originally I was going to use the red dome to make a dome for the car but I didn't like the way it looked. Instead I heated some plastic with matches and pushed it over the side of the red dome. This didn't work out as well as I originally intended but I then decided that the scorching and the damage gave it the look of tinted glass that had seen better days and fitted in with what I was intending.
I bought two el cheapo artists canvases. the oval one is an oil painters canvas and the other is a fabric covered piece of cardboard. I cut the card at an angle to make the backing for a raised slope.
After gluing them together I then used glue soaked pieces of paper to make a base and then recoated those in glue and threw on some sand from my front yard.
