No AI, no CGI, just good old-fashioned Photoshop
This is a true slider, a composite made of my other option for Macro Mondays' "Pastel" theme: a photo of a small round glass flacon (which also would make a pretty vase for a tiny bouquet), mostly clear, and decorated with a beautiful pink and rose banding (stratification? I'm not sure which is the correct word) with dark accents. Those dark, almost black lines in the banding were the main reason why I did not consider using the flacon image for "Pastel" (plus I thought the photo of the toothbrush, my previous upload, looked nicer and also more pastel). But I still liked the image, and the way I had photographed it (as close as possible and with the main focus on a tiny, roundish inclusion in the glass, the "eye"), it reminded me a lot of a pastel planet.
So why not actually turn it into a "real" Pastel Planet and create a space scene for Sliders Sunday? Since I had photographed the flacon against the same white backdrop as the toothbrush, the first step was to black out the background, or rather the bit of negative space on the left corner of the original photo's frame. I started with a dark vignette in Analog Efex, but that didn't look very realistic. Neither did the field of stars which I tried to create with the "Add noise" filter. There is a technique to create a realistic-looking starry space with the Noise filter, but it didn't quite work out for me, the main reason probably being the buggy Photoshop performance due to my now too-old graphics card. In fact, just the other day, after Creative Cloud had automatically updated PS to the latest 2023 version, I was greeted with the message "Your graphics processor is not compatible" (Dang! This means I'll need a new graphics card (etc.) ASAP!), so I had to go back to the previous PS version because that at least kind of still works. But luckily, I found a very easy way to create a field of stars with a custom brush. You can find a link to that tutorial at the end of the description.
In the end, I also decided to use only a section of the flacon to create a whole, perfectly round planet floating in space. The easiest way to make a round shape look like a 3D sphere is to use the "Spherize" filter (at 100%). After adding the moon (for which I used a sunset cloud photo I'd once taken from the balcony), I also added a Lighting effect from the left (please make sure your image mode is set to 8-bit). I also used the burn brush at a large size (midtones at 45% and 25% opacity) to add more of a 3D look to the spheres by painting the planet's and the moon's respective right edges a little darker. The (free) cloud photo I've used to create the nebula is courtesy of "Lemuria" on pixabay. How to make the nebula and also how to add a stratosphere-like glow around a sphere is also explained in the second tutorial. Here are the links to two of the tutorials I've checked out on YouTube:

Video displaying features following soon :)
The Federation wasted nothing when processing the minerals, ore and fuels recovered by its massive mining operations. Dangerous by-products were recycled and reformed for other important uses. Even more importantly, many key fuels were exceptionally dangerous if utilised incorrectly, requiring acute physical stability during transit. Transport rovers were fitted with sensitive gyroscopic technologies and extremely responsive suspension for this task.
Here's a fun little build using only current (light bley) parts. I put together instructions too. If you could check them out on Rebrickable and give them a like or comment that would really help them gain visibility! Enjoy!
The LL-856 Hammerhead was used by the Federation to measure the gravitational and magnetic fields of planets, moons, and planetesimals, revealing vital information about their sub surface structures, composition, and dynamics. The wide hammerhead fins, packed with delicate, encased sensors, facilitated extremely fine spacial resolution in all directions, unimpeded by the main body of the craft.
This build came together very quickly by my standards, after playing around with those bubble cockpits and a blue castle turret. Created in September, and 54 studs long, it's my demi-SHIP. :) The blue turret I first spotted on a nice old neo-classic spaceship by Yvonne Doyle from back in 2008. As the old saying goes, all parts are Space parts!
More shots to come in the next couple of days. Nice to do that Lego Space design speciality, the twin cockpit. It's all old grey of course and the landing gear is functional.
Now for something completely different which took a little more processing time than usual
The picture is intended to depict the view from the moon of a giant planet in a far off solar system. I have occasionally done this sort of image in the past usually as now when the cold and wet are not conducive to going outside. This was done entirely photographically from my own images. No digital painting and no planet or star images from others.
First for the landscape I used a picture taken from near a road looking towards the Volcanic crater of Montana Cuervo near Masdache, Lanzarote. The view makes for a great moonscape with little life having been re-established since the multiple eruptions which covered a third of the Island in Lava 250 years ago. The starting point for the planet was some rocks pictured in a cave on Lanzarote and converted into a pattern. Creating the planet was the most complex but I mainly followed an online tutorial. A blue base was used and then the rock pattern added. Then the distort spherise command applied twice at maximum. Layer styles inner glow and outer glow were used for the atmosphere. Another layer was used for the shadow. The Planet rings started out as some clouds in a picture taken in France. Again a tutorial was used and included Filter – Distort –Twirl at maximum 3 times and Transform Scale to flatten the rings. The moons were created using the same planet with different colours and reduced in size on the combined image using Transform Scale. Finally the stars started life as a picture taken near home from Pagham Harbour wall. There was a lot of use of selections, layers and layer masks to put it all together.
A point to note is that on an airless world such as a moon the dark night sky would be visible during daylight. The final Photoshop file had 11 layers.

I had put all the work in making the 3D models, I thought I might as well animate them.
In the process I learnt how you use two cameras and switch between them, how to use the graph editor to slow down an animation, and how to add music.
I used CC0 (public domain) music of freepd.com. It's called "Overture" by Alexander Nakarada.
Slowly but surely I'm getting there.
All is fairly low poly and rendered with Eevee.
ps: the second camera is mounted on top of the spacecraft
The pinnacle of Federation design, The LL-928 Galaxy Explorer lasted generations longer than virtually any other craft. Its combination of speed, power, and adaptability made it not just a perennial favourite amongst Federation pilots, but also a symbol of the Federation's mission as a whole.
Proudly presenting this version of the Galaxy explorer using only common, cheaply available elements! I've made instructions available, and the parts (without minifigs) are gettable on bricklink for about €100/£85 or less!
Instructions are here:
rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-85884/The%20Brick%20Artisan/ll-9...
I built in a lot of play features - working landing gear, a rover which can be contained in the back, swivelling rear doors like the original, and also the original a rear folding hatch, and roof which hinges up.
It's a wrap!
#SHIPtember2017 proved an awesome challenge yet again. Transforming this beasty from sketch to brick was a hell of a ride :D

The Basilisk, a terran battlecruiser made for deep space exploration and patrol duties. Scanning clusters, taking care of space security and deploying it's drones wherever they come in handy, this mission ship is a versatile asset for any fleet. It's bulky tank-like appearance makes many a space pirate shiver their timbers. Yet, with it's fins withdrawn the Basilisk's speed and agility are on par with any common cruiser out there. The bridge houses a crew of four. The deck below is accessible trough a ladder, which leads to the bunks area, armory and cantina. The mid-section consists of a drone bay with capacity of three medium sized drones. The hangar has three servicestations and a workshop. Behind the drone bay is a storage area which leads to the rear section. The mainframe situated in the rear section provides tech support on missions and enables drone control. The back section houses a small pressurized landing area with a cargo shuttle for transit, trading and multi-purpose pitstops. The sliding top opens up for space access.

Hello,
A freestyle build , the idea was using those big nexo wedges , the first attempt looked like a sort of strange tie fighter, few hours later it's a space shuttle ^^
Even if it has à huge empty spaace , the thing is very solid and perfectly swooshable !( You can even hold it only by the rear)

In the late 2200s, NASA scientists and space crew made a breakthrough in technology that could efficiently detect, capture and store space-borne antimatter in quantities sufficient to theoretically power a star drive that would put the galaxy in far faster reach than had previously thought possible. The antimatter particles would be captured with a colossal electromagnetic net and safely guided into storage traps.
The safety of antimatter star drives however, remained unproven, high risk and potentially catastrophic in the event of even a minor failure. NASA, not wishing to be responsible for the destruction of the solar system in an apocalyptic antimatter annihilation event, pulled out, withdrew funding and re-assigned the antimatter teams to more mundane tasks, like developing better space toilets, mini space vacuum cleaners and space tea kettles.
The highly trained and ambitious NASA antimatter teams weren't having it. Space tea kettles were a demotion in their eyes, especially when their antimatter tech would help them attain the stars, to break out of the confines of the solar system! They were determined to see this antimatter thing through. A group of them managed to secure funding from a shadowy and stupendously wealthy Moon-based mining baron and they formally broke away from NASA.
Humorously (and rather giving the middle finger to their former employers) naming themselves NAST, pronounced "nasty": Nefarious Astronautic + Space Troublemakers. Their motto was SIDERA NOBIS! (all caps), the Latin for OUR STARS! They got to work fast. By 2319 the Xylethrus AMV1 (Antimatter Vessel 1) was completed in the Moon's orbit and ready for its inaugural test of the antimatter star drive. The rest, as they say, is history...

Why was it deserted, you ask?
For the same reason she brought her lightblade.

2.) Spaceship,
3.) Spaceship,
4.) SPACESHIP!
5.) Man, it feels good to upload something up to par. (Though if you feel like I'm wrong in that respect, please don't fail to let me know!)
6.) Too bad I had to dismantle My Eurobricks HSH entry, though. (Which has just topped well over 200 faves and ranked fourth in the contest.*yay!*)
This ship was cannibalized of its purple dishes to make the entry and I've only just reconstructed it. ;)
7.) Oops, looks like I made another gray-skinned treasure hunter. Definitely not intentional. :P
8.) For those patiently waiting for The Journey to get back online, I'll have you know that now that the aforementioned EB entry has been parted and the essential pieces for making SNOT bases are back in circulation, I will build and upload another episode just as soon as I decide which of a couple key plot points is the best to incorporate. I hope it doesn't scare you all that I don't really know what I'm doing. ;D
9.) :sigh: Another spaceship based entirely on the principle of, “You will sit here until you incorporate ALL these parts into one coherent spaceship!” I'm pretty sure one of the AFOLs in the recent IB seed part reveal mentioned something about that, and I totally know the feeling. Good thing my next spaceship was premeditated. ;)
10.) I'll upload the now-mandatory spacescene, detail pics, etc. when I get the time. :)
11.) I hope you all enjoy this! C&C is always appreciated around here as I need as much as I can get to feed Chrysalis and the Unikitties. ;)

The big reveal for my Alternate Build Challenge!
Here's the original model I built, which, as previously, is a Classic style version of one of my neo classic builds! Here's the original Hammerhead album. All the major features I tried to imitate in classic style. The white Classic Space man is sitting in a rover which can be released from beneath the canopy. I thought I would add a flexible tail as a further play feature, so that it swims! Ahem... I mean to assist in scanning.
You can see my own four alternate models here, and alternate models that other people made here.
What started as a bit of drawing in 2017 has since been due for quite a while.
I went with it digitally and posted a little update back in 2020.
Then got a bigger table. DA IV happened :) and then pretty much deviated like a pro. Until I finished the SHIP and posted a little teaser in 2022.
So now, in the spirit and the somewhat magnetic pull of SHIPtember, here she finally is: The Tequila Sunrise!

Story
"Entire generations may pass devoid of great discoveries".
This was almost one of those generations.
The year 4561 saw the end of the Terpon Zoning Wars with the lion's share of the spoils going to the Beulorians. Most of the wars were fought in the courtrooms and the Beulorians were defending what they considered to be a fair claim. The Terpon Cluster was an uninhabited star grouping that sat on the fringes of the secluded Vierian System and was mostly considered a vast wasteland. Beulor was the only planet that supported life in the Vierian System. When their explorations reached as far as the Terpon Cluster, they discovered a widely spanning asteroid field. It was believed they were verging on something quite amazing. The cluster remained to that date unclaimed and despite their reputation as rash businessmen, Beulor's interest in the region quickly drew a crowd of suitors.
The Beulorians fought passionately in the Universal Courts for the cluster. Their win was attributed mostly to their command of their native tongue, which they insisted on using and was largely unintelligible by most other civilized races.
In the six years immediately following their 'victory', the Beulorians began mining the asteroids. Their exhaustive exploration revealed nothing, and tons of it. Their resources were quickly drained and living up to their well-deserved reputation, the Beulorians looked to sell the lot. The potential investment was overwhelmingly ignored.
A coalition of interstellar industrialists took interest. This coalition was represented by the biggest stakeholder Llwyngwril Systems. Already famous for their manufacturing of practical yet ridiculous vehicles, as well as the virtual impossibility of correctly pronouncing the company name without pulling a muscle, the representatives of Llwyngwril saw potential where other parties saw only insurmountable risk. They lowballed the Beulorians with an offer that they, themselves, considered completely unreasonable. But seeing it as the only opportunity to dump an investment they felt was destined to yield no return whatsoever, the Beulorians hastily accepted the offer. They went on and toasted themselves 'the greatest salesmen in the Universe'.
Within mere days of the property changing hands, the new owners started setting up mining facilities on the largest asteroids in the field. Adler Corporation planted several bunkers, CS fanatics became active on the surface, Tequilatron began plasmamining, Llwyngwril deployed their Gourmet Grinders and several private contractors initiated deep core mining. The representatives were surprised that the Beulorians had not yet mined these rocks. This astonishment was soon replaced by joy when several deep core miners stumbled across a new element. In an effort to make it easy to pronounce, the coalition named the element ABS, or ABSinite. It was easily smelted, melted down into a variety of ABS shapes, easily dyed and was bulletproof. Its potential profitability was immediately recognized.
The Beulorians who facilitated the transaction were promptly outsmarted and dealt with. According to the planet's laws, for the most punishable and commonly committed crime of being rash. The coalition took over the asteroid fields and expanded their effort till the very last rock. This started an era that would become known as 'The Great Terpon Mining Frenzy'.
As all businesses eventually experience, the criminal element wormed its way into the action. Completely incapable of original ideas that lead to any semblance of profitability, but perfectly adept at being ruthless and covered in unmanageable hair, Thondan pirates made frequent passes through the cluster. Their aim was set for cargo carriers and freighters destined for the more populated and high-demand regions of the Universe. Recently discovering stealth technology, the criminals of Blacktron found their way into the cluster as well, secretly scanning remaining asteroids for small profits. Tapping and stealth mining became an almost regular thing. The alien species of Ethel Mertz too noticed the boost of activity in the region. So they began storming the nebulae situated in the cluster and learned how to extract ABS from the toxic clouds. Being at war with the humans from 4518 to 4546, the coalition had a bitter aftertaste about the Mertz' presence in the area. Nebulae mining was mostly tolerated though, as the clouds were marked as too irradiated for their vessels to approach.
To combat the criminal activity, the coalition funded an effort to patrol and survey ongoing mining operations. The powerful Galactic Anthropic Imperial Armada (GAIA) stepped in and signed the lucrative contract. Now overseeing daily business in luxury cruiseliners converted into battleships, GAIA keeps an eye out for smugglers, pirates and criminals. With an inexhaustible supply of weaponry and hubris. The system is well known for their ships now hovering in the middle of dense industrial territory. Their singular mission being to fire 'tiny' missiles at approaching enemies and occasionally pointing their formidable triple cannons at the intruders only to extend the middle one into the air. Hubris.
The arrangement has proven reasonably effective and the benefit of fewer troubles with pirates allowed the coalition to overlook the fact that the gigantic spaceships frequently clogged up viable trade routes.
The system is now one of the most active industrial zones in the history of the Interstellar Transport Agency. The huge variety of ships and building styles in the system attracts spaceship spotters from all across the galaxy.
Individual builds and backgrounds
- Topsy Creatori
- Creation: D.U.D. Barges, space cargo
Built and piloted by Darkla's M3D Marauders, the typical red/black D.U.D. Barges are seen flying in to the asteroid field to collect ABS. Little is known as to what purpose Darkla's empire would use the resources. The archives only show a lucrative private contract, set up with an anonymous company.
- Starscream Soundwave
- Creation: Private party, heavy duty mining ships
Extracting as much ABS as is available for the highest bidder. This is the aim of the submarine-like mining fleet. Their appearance is matched with their heavy armor, protecting the valuable goods inside. Two mining lasers on the front do the extracting. Contents are usually picked up by mobile processing ships or high capacity freighters.
- Locutus666
- Creation: Blacktron I, # 6985 upgraded ABS Prospector
Blacktron got word of the mining operations going on in section D 887. They just needed to venture out and take their slice. Joining the party in the second stage, a stealth prospector is seen scanning the remaining asteroids for quantities of ABS.
- Marc Edge R.unde
- Creation: GAIA, HMS Misirlou
With the increasing threat of pirates within the quadrant, local authorities called upon the Galactic Anthropic Imperial Armada to oversee ongoing operations. An Alexandria Class Destroyer (HMS Misirlou) is seen bombarding an incoming Thondan pirate ship.
- David Roberts
- Creation: Llwyngwril Systems, 'Gourmet' Asteroid miner
Llwyngwril Systems' Gourmet Grinder is a mining machine with and integral smelting furnace under its belly. It is serviced by two smaller ships. One has big tongs for removing the ore from the back of the smelter and the other one carries it away to the nearest station or processing facility.
- David Alexander Smith
- Creation: CS, Mineral Sorting Plant
General deposits of ABS found on the surface of asteroids are mostly exploited by the CS fanatics. Industrial mineral sorting stations pop up everywhere, as well as the landvehicles scraping the soil.
- Clayton Marchetti
- Creation: Space Freighter S.S. 5906 "Goliath"
The golden carriages of the galactic speedways. Carrying vast amounts of cargo, these freighters are slow but very profitable. Usually these ships buy up all local resources, which get transported to areas with a high demand rate. Their big fuselages make easy targets to get a lock on for ill tempered pirates though.
- Matt Rowntree
- Creation: Ethel Mertz, Thurston Howell mkIII, Lurch class ABS extraction frigate
Unlike most human explorers and miners, this alien species is able to extract ABSinite from the irradiated nebulae efficiently. The Ethel Mertz and Terran miners continue to co-exist as they do not venture into eachother's territory. Means of contact and communication remain strictly forbidden though, causing a tenuous relationship.
- Tom Remy
- Creation: Liquid ABS processing facility
The deep core extraction pillar digs into the asteroid, extracting and processing the highly toxic liquid absinite. This is the kind that can be turned into hard, transparent clear, cat-hair proof-absinite products. Dropships fly in and out of the landing pad to deliver the goods to local buyers.
- Tim Clark
- Creation: The 'Scallywag', Thondan pirate ship
Thondan pirates are well equipped and known for their ruthless tactics. Not interested in interstellar politics or trade, their goal is nothing but personal profit. The ominously looking Scallywag is seen warping into the sector, directly locking on to a freighter. That Absinite is going nowhere.
- Stephan Niehoff
- Creation: Adler Corporation, fuel refinery
In this facility, the mineral Reebit is won out of ABS. Reebit is prepared in powder form of two quality standards. Reebit is stored in silos for fueling and an explosive component. The refinery is sturdily built like a bunker, relying on it's defensive capability and protection from others.
- Pico van Grootveld
- Creation: Tequilatron, deep space drill operation
Tequilatron is the universe's number 1 provider in salts and liquor, famed for their spirits and tuk-tuks. The new Mobile 'King' drill, a walker and several type II plasmadrills are seen extracting ABS for their next new drink prototype. Scientist are still in search of a fitting name for their green spirit.

Both an interstellar seed and carrier warship, Sidonia is one of the many seed carrier ships that houses the surviving remains of humanity after the destruction of Earth.
Based on the seed ship from the manga and anime series "Knights of Sidonia" (or "Sidonia no Kishi"). For more interesting information about this ship, I highly recommend visiting the Wiki.
I've used this model kit as a source for this build. Especially as a guide for the shape, color (which is more brownish in the anime) and size of the asteroid.
This also concludes a WIP process which was pretty interesting on a personal level, with lots of trial and error and helpful feedback from fellow builders.
Still working through the massive influence that Peter Elson and Chris Foss had on me when I was younger.
Classic Space - Benny's Cruiser, Cruiser, CRUISER! Well Benny has been working on some different designs after the popularity of his SSS and he has modified it to use over 50 percent of its previous weight and dropped down to two engines. With the lesser weight average cruising speed has been increased even without the third engine which is going be used later on another ship, or so he says. MOCpages: www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/433174

The automated systems are under attack. Estimate forty minutes max before a seal breach to the main spine - and then all the other pods are at risk."
Ark 9 Command: "Is there nothing else you can do? Can you synthesise more of the soporifics? Turn off the AG system to slow it down until we can deploy manned cell-to-cell clearance? We have to try everything we can to save the survivors. First Pod Five and now this..."
Ark 7 Command: "Fred, Pod Five's die-off was a simple scrubber malfunction. This is different. There's something horrible - evil - going down there on One. Someone or something woke them up 350 years ahead of schedule. I want it off the spine now. I cannot risk further spread. You cannot veto me on this - please - it's my ark that's gonna get even more chewed up here."
Ark 9 Command: "...the families. The innocents."
Ark 7 Command: "You heard the audio feeds Fred. They're gone. They are something else now."
Ark 9: "... ..."
Ark 7: "Please Fred. It's time to be decisive. We are sweating blood over this right now. The crew are starting to lose their... objectivity."
Ark 9: "OK Mariko. Just let me find the codes. Prepare for emergency pod jettison countdown."
