Not much to say here. Built this while at school. Now that I'm back I've finally taken pictures of it.

Planetary nebulae make a nice slide! HSS everyone!
These are the fluorescent bulbs of the Universe: the light coming from this "planetary" nebula M57 in constellation Lyra is produced the same way as in household fluorescent light bulbs - by absorbing invisible (ultraviolet) light from the central source and re-emitting it in the visible spectrum. But there the similarity ends. What you see here is a dying star. It used to be a magnificent red giant star, and then at some point the internal balance between radiation and gravity goes bananas, and most of the star becomes an expanding shell of gas (eventually dispersed into space), while the super-hot core stays behind - you can see the core in this photo. As there are no more thermonuclear reactions to keep it alive, this core cools down and becomes a relic known as a "white dwarf". Eventually (billions years later) the white dwarf becomes cold and invisible - a "black dwarf". Read more here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_nebula
Technical details: the photo was stacked from twenty 15-seconds exposures made in the prime focus of my 6" Newtonian telescope, using Canon 50D and electronic shutter (FRSP feature of Magic Lantern).
It's FebRovery again, yeah :-D
First, sorry for my lack of activity on Flickr since September (messy life).
I've missed a lot of MOCs, but I'll try to catch up all what I didn't seen.
On this FebRovery : I'm not as inspired as I've been last year... I've got several Rovers ready, but it's juste a bunch of small improvised builds, nothing too spectacular...
Anyway, it still fun and enjoyable to do this type of build for me, and in a way, it's the spirit of the event : build without pressure ^^
Maybe I will do some more ambitious Rover, but I'm not sure I will have the inspiration.
Hope you like this little one anyway, which could almost had been a wheeled robot. But the driver is a tradition ^^
The previous weeks' escapades with microscale spacecraft left me itching for something more substantial...and something more asymmetrical. A bit of the inspiration for this probably stems from David Simon's Niobe, but I think I mostly just wanted to expand on last week's cockpit section.
On a separate note related only by the fact that I was listening to the audiobooks while building: what do people have to say about the Ender's Game sequels and prequels? I enjoyed the first half of Xenocide enormously, but toward the end it reached a level of metaphysical weirdness I don't know if I can put up with much more. For any other science nerds out there: is Children of the Mind actually worthwhile? I can deal with the suspension of disbelief that deals with philotic communication, but the whole "children" part just seems like stupid philosophical drivel. Your opinions?
Unable to abandon Mr Card's narrative completely, I moved to the new prequel trilogy and built this MOC mostly while listening to Earth Unaware. Thus far it is enjoyable, relatively believable, and, in contrast to the later Ender books, a bit more grounded in known physics. The one criticism I have is his justification for forcing the human ships to slow or even "stop" in order to spacewalk or dock.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company's Dragon spacecraft is launched on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission to the International Space Station with NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Warren "Woody" Hoburg, UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev onboard, Thursday, March 2, 2023, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission is the sixth crew rotation mission of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. Bowen, Hoburg, Alneyadi, and Fedyaev launched at 12:34 a.m. EST from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center to begin a six month mission aboard the orbital outpost. Rethinking all the modeling for construction has been a superb challenge for me
"In the Vastness of the Firmament, there is nothing more fell or feared at large than the Orcs. Brutal folk of war and weapons they are, drifting from world to world in ragged bands and savage hordes. They care not for beauty or artistry in their ships, nor even dependable functionality, but instead tread the fastest and most heavily armed road, cobbling together wretched machines of unsightly visage out of the corpses of their foes' craft to haunt the world at large."
—Excerpt from the ancient Tome of Paladins, now deemed a rather racist work.
...
I'll admit, this build is a bit stupid, but I love it to pieces. Orcs in space, in a crazy cobbled-together starship with no onboard atmosphere (except maybe in the pilot's cockpit) and an armament primarily composed of ridiculously oversized rifles and bladed weapons held by the crew (who are arranged in two rings of four around the main fuselage, with an additional pilot at the front). It's ludicrous, it's beautifully unrealistic, and it's one of my new favourite things. It's also called the Ghormlagh, by the way, because orcs.
So... I guess this is Spastle?

A polymer clay monster head sculpture. It has an eyelet for cording to be worn as a pendant. I like to use various beads, bits of glass or those cheesy plastic faceted gems to use as eyes and ther details...

gracias a migue, www.flickr.com/photos/cat_rapido/, por ayudarme como modelo.
Here is an outer space simulation I made from scratch in photoshop. I don't know if anyone can find a use for it, but it's there if someone wants to use it.
Go to All Sizes up there and save the Original file. Only thing I ask is to not commercially redistribute or claim as your own.
Is it weird that I'm uploading this things? :-/
I can't go out much, so I end up creating things that I can't photograph. That's...sort of pathetic. :(
