Cimetière soviétique
De nombreux prisonniers soviétiques, travailleurs forcés, sont morts entre 1943 et 1945 dans les mines de Moutiers et Valleroy. Pour honorer leur mémoire, un comité d’anciens combattants fut créé en 1957 avec pour président René Lamorlette. Cinquante-quatre dépouilles de prisonniers soviétiques furent inhumées dans la nécropole, en lisière du bois de Vroaille à Valleroy.
Le 20 mai 1971, une stèle réalisée par le sculpteur Amilcar Zannoni fut inaugurée.
Chaque année, une cérémonie organisée par le Comité de la stèle de Valleroy réunit des officiels et une délégation russe.

After a morning exploring Transnistria, we find this restaurant in the middle of town. The owner has collected lots of Russian and Soviet artefacts and turned the restaurant into a museum, but here you can touch as well look at the exhibits. The food is also traditional fayre and between us we had a good selection to sample!
The Dnister River marks the border between Moldova and the breakaway state of Transnistria. However, Transnistria means "other side of the Dnister [river]", but since to the residents they're on 'this' side they call the region Pridnistrovie, meaning "Before the Dnister [river]". This part of Moldova want independence and separation from Moldova, to keep their Russian identity, but they don't want to part of Russia or have any links to The Kremlin. There has border control to enter the region but everything is so friendly, despite us being so close to the Ukrainian border.
