Assignment: PCA72 – Hit Me with Your Best Shot - SOOC

Deadline: July 19th, 2009

Image Tag: pca72

From: mags_Tag (margherita)

Mission: SOOC stands for β€œstraight out of camera”. Many of our assignments lately deal with manipulating our shots; cropping, burning, layering. This week’s assignment is to shoot and post a shot that you have NOT altered in ANY WAY. The subject matter is completely up to you but try to understand your camera and take the best shot the first time

It may sound like this week’s assignment is too easy but to take a really good photo with the right composition, light and exposure the first time is not. Let’s take a step back from all the high tech and try to shoot the best shot we can; one that we planned and created in the camera. No altering, cropping, darkening, sharpening or other manipulating allowed. So let your PP have a few days rest, get out there and shoot away, but as always, think before you pull that trigger.

WIT: Being in very dry conditions for the week and then getting to a body of water was a huge break for me. Twin Lakes, CA is a beautiful stop especially if you fish. I saw this tree that I wanted to be in the frame on one side or the other and I thought this was best. I really like the stark silver/whiteness of it and the way it popped off the water. I did have a polarizer on my lens and it most likely needed to be rotated a bit more the more I look at it. If I could change anything I might boost the color of the yellows for detail below, possibly straighten and not shoot in the middle of the day but I was on my break. Very happy with this SOOC shot.

SOOC challenge for 52 in 2015. Only adjustment was to calibrate with camera/lens (a feature of Lightroom, so it's as much as I took it as possible), and a crop.

V is for Valentine!

Processing: LR- straighten & crop, +clarity PS - cloned out the dumb cable cord & some dust.

Happy Valentine's Day! Hope your day is full of love. I was going for the SOOC challenge today too - but I couldn't bring myself to leave my horizon askew & let the lumpy cable cord hang out in the back. Minimal processing though!

Possible contender for the weekly SOOC challenge. Taken with my P&S in my hotel room.

Playfulness means being able to explore and to do things, for the sheer delight of doing them. It means relaxing, being spontaneous, and allowing a situation to carry you where it will. When we have a playful attitude, learning and discovery are fun, and even hard work can fly by.

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that playfulness actually accomplishes things! When children play, they become smarter because new neuron connections are formed in their brains. Play has been described as the work of childhood, the place where the greatest learning occurs. Great scientists and spiritual leaders often are similarly playful.

Playfulness reduces stress, and brightens the atmosphere. It engages people to do things that make them more connected with other people. It makes people happy.

This was shot for the SOOC Challenge for 52 in 2015, but there was too much white space so I added a bit of texture to the background

When we drove into the Charleston area I said to hubby I wanted to be sure to get some nice moss pictures. Little did I know how much moss was around, everywhere!

This was taken at Charles Towne Landing, the site of the oldest settlement in the area, in 1670.

*My answer to Fabiela's absolut - naked pixels SOOC challenge. Woohoo!!

She says "SOOC images are Pictures As Shot. They are unmanipulated images with no processing in or out of camera. No color or contrast adjustments, composites, layers, conversions, sharpening, borders, watermarks, straightening, added presets - just SOOC.

... I have seen a lot of SOOC images here on Flickr saying that they are SOOC in the description, but then...wait, it says, just cropped it or just added border, or just tweaked the contrast a bit!! Hang on a minute - that is no longer a SOOC if its been touched! Why bother calling it SOCC anyway, is it really that important that we need to know. A photograph is subjective, SOOC or processed - does it really matter to the viewer - all we want to see is the photo and we can be the judges of that. It makes me laugh when the description says, pretty much SOOC, just added or tweaked this or that! (Rant, rant, rant) ;)"

I say...

βœ“ No color or contrast adjustments

βœ“ No composites

βœ“ No layers

βœ“ No conversion

βœ“ No cropping

βœ“ No sharpening

βœ“ No borders

βœ“ No watermark

βœ“ No straightening

βœ“ No added presets

βœ“ No tweaking, whatsoever

βœ“ No PS, Picnik, Lightroom, Picasa, or any other image editing software/ creatortool datum on EXIF data (what about Microsoft Windows where it passed through, Fabiela?)

βœ“ pure SOOC goodness

www.urbandictionary has a posting which put SOOC simply as -- the word photographers use as shorthand for "Straight Out of Camera". This refers to NOT using Photoshop or any image editing software as of yet. Often used online and not in real life, to give quick information to other photographers.

Well, friends, at the end of the day, it is the photo that matters, SOOC or not.

Week No: 5

Theme: SOOC

SOOC challenges always make me realise how much I enjoy a bit of post processing. I would definitely have tweaked contrast a bit and maybe cropped a bit of the empty space if I had been let off the leash. Instead this is a direct conversion from RAW to JPEG without any 'interference'

SOOC

Challenge Central - Abstract

SOOC challenge for 52 of Twenty Eleven, Week 18.

This, or another in the series I'm still working on, perhaps a candidate for 52 weeks for dogs also.

I meditate, and have had Jake join me since he was a little puppy. He loves it. He curls up next to me and it's quiet time for him, an otherwise exuberant active boy. Yesterday, he did his cute little paw crossing thing, and so I ran and grabbed my camera, meditated some more, he settled back in to his contemplative posture, and I was able to capture this. May post a few more below. Unfortunately, I'd had the ISO set still at 400 from a low light shoot so there is a bit of camera noise if viewed larger. For the SOOC challenge, I left things as is, but for 52 weeks for dogs, I'm working on processing with Topaz to denoise, and tweaking a few things, like getting rid of that speck of black on his paw fur. I very much appreciate all critical feedback and am not thin-skinned about it. I liked the dark and light contrast here, and the light on his face and front. Wishing I might have gotten more of his eyes, but I was constrained by the space. I think the green garden and light around it are a bit distracting, not sure what to do, other than to have photographed him in another spot- but this spot is where the light was. I could I suppose layer this in photoshop and overexpose the outdoors (or underexpose parts)- or blur it out-- or something.

Im a total idiot when it comes to flower. The photo below could be of younger and fresher blooms than the one I posted above... Im not sure, Im just basing my observations on the petals vividness and darker colors.

Anyone, please enlighten me.

Challenge Central - Multiple

100 Pictures - 50. Spring (2013)

Today day 4 for the photo challenge.

Thinking of people who take photos of a part of their life at home and can do something with it every day so that it is always a little different I think is quite clever.

Knowing that I have a hard time with that I still find it inspiring.

So I will do my best to do something with that too.

And that made me think what inspires me and how do I capture that in images.

90% of the time I shoot in black and white but to my surprise the book by Saul Leiter is my most favorite book and that is in color.

Maybe it is time to make a change and just shoot in color for a month just to see where this leads me too.

I finally collected my new glasses from the Opticians today. I've been aware for some time that I needed an eye test and new glasses (especially given that I lost my last pair and never did anything about it). Anyway, it transpired it had been 10 years since my last eye test - oops. So I have relented and here are my new ones. And for the most part, I'm actually wearing them when I'm supposed to aswell!

Even better, I got a fab pair of new sunglasses with them too, as it was buy one get one free!

(Buy one get one) Free (Zac Brown Band) for the May Scavenger Hunt.

Also my entry for this month's OOYCZ SOOC challenge.

Well here is my SOOC challenge for this week, so I as It's straight out of the camera I have not even rotated it, a very challenging post as I normally shoot in RAW. It is the Wellington Monument Phoenix Park Dublin, during the last rays of Sunset, will have to wait to week 50 to edit it.

This is what my group of 18 old women from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia came up with. Grateful and proud.

So much to be done.

I SO believe in you, in us. "Straight out of the camera challenge #sooc_challenge

katerinakaterfly: @rio87s Thank you for you comment. It is respected. We had an interesting discussion on this in class. Maybe some of my students would like to share their thoughts on this @atheerdz @fataniasma @thuraya_kb @nuha.nk @sus27q 😊

katerinakaterfly: @rio87s Respected by who? Do we have another choice?

If you were a single woman with low income, would still support it?

Yes the streets are crazy. Why don't we male the streets safer? Why don't we teach boys show more respect?

And how "respected" is this rule? I see daily boys between 10-15 driving in town?!!!

Where Is tje respect and safety there?

Something doesn't quite make sense. But of course, for some it is more convenient than it is for others.

I was tagged by the beautiful Elise to do a SOOC shot, so since taking time to process a photo today was the last thing I was interested in doing, I figured I'd go ahead and pay up! Oh, and I have to tag more people to do the SOOC challenge, so if you're tagged on the right, then you best post a SOOC shot asap!

Spent the day starting to stress out over planning this wedding. But now I'm relaxing and enjoying a delicious salad topped with fresh seared ahi, compliments of Andy. Oh man am I glad I snagged a man who loves to cook!

Roses, paradise giggles.

An aromatic rose from a basket full of roses, about to start the rosewater journey .

For the last 2 years I dreamed of visiting Taif, the roses the wild baboons and camels.

Last night, accidentally (if such a thing exists) found about the trip and jumped in. Love how effortlessly things happen when we seemingly let go. 'Straight out of the camera challenge #sooc_challenge'

This week's 52 of 2011 challenge was SOOC ("Straight Out Of Camera"). Instead of going the digital route, I opted to do film. After all, the SOOC challenge is to kind of mimic what we all used to do with film - getting it as close to possible as correct in camera, without the fancy tools in photoshop to fix mistakes. This is a three frame panorama from my Holga. In the spirit of the challenge, I got the film developed, scanned in the three frames as a strip and posted it here with no post processing.

Wide open Kiwi and wide open aperture

Trying to get the translucent illumination of the kiwi slice but I had trouble finding a non-reflective surface to put it on. I finally ended up with one of those little plastic cutting boards, which is why there are all the little lines. I'll have to try it with a brand new one sometime and then perhaps it will just look solid around it. The other challenge is getting it evenly illuminated so there are not gradations in color around it. Of course, I could just select around it and replace the background in PSE, but since this was for a SOOC challenge, that wasn't permissible this time.

SOOC Challenge

This is my son Dylan, we were preparing to leave for his 18th birthday party and asked him for a few quick shots. I used ALLLLL my willpower not to touch curves, unsharpen etc.. but I didn't have time anyway so here it is SOOC.

i think I much prefer this version of this particular crappy photo. One of these days I should challenge myself to a sooc challenge...one of these days when I have the skill to get a good shot on the first shot, or the time to **** around for hours til I get a good shot. Meh, this has the same feel I was going for anyway..
