It may take a little bit of courage to live there, in the middle of a vast expanse of grassland, with no one else around.
Or so it seems. There are other ranch houses along Kings Highway, but they are a mile or more apart.
The air was calm and warm that summer day I was there, but believe you me, come fall or spring it will blow like the dickens, with nothing to stop the wind.
This image is part of my ongoing quest to depict the vastness of New Mexico
I was trying something different when I was down at the creek the other day. Instead of photographing the water flowing, I tried to arrest the movement with a short shutterspeed. It gave some interesting results. I will post a few more in the coming days.
...the lilacs are in blossom...it is early evening...

Something I saw during my early morning walk. Late summer seems to be the time for rainbows here in New Mexico.
Echo finally got her turn to pose in front of the tree. She was more concerned with keeping her eye out for incoming Teddy but at least she sat and held relatively still long enough to grab a few pics.
I had trouble sleeping last night so took advantage of being up with the dawn. Sunrise at Frisco on Hatteras Island National Seashore, North Carolina.

It only seems that it's lonely, but in reality its clones are all around and everywhere. Interestingly, the old Pentacon lens rendered them as disks wide open at f1.8 and produced a pleasing, soft bokeh, Well, to my eye at least.
I shot while the sun was low and the grasses were backlit.
I promise, if I find a better subject, I will photograph it. But the reality is that In New Mexico at this time of the year, I feel hard pressed to come up with anything.

"Belvedere" - nice outlook indeed!
Do zoom in and press your nose to the window-pane! You can find St Stephan's Cathedral, and to the right in the baroque garden you can find two white sphinxes. If you look around a bit more, you'll see a few umbrellas, but there weren't many tourists outside - they were inside having a "museum day" looking at the paintings in the galleries.

HWW!
With the light being great and changing fast and the "Desert 4 o'clocks" in full bloom I still had a tough time coming up with a composition. All the elements were there but I struggled to line them up in a pleasing way.
This was the best I could do.
A few days ago I saw this dragonfly at the edge of my (concrete) pond. It took me with surprise that it was creeping out of his skin (or so it seemed just had creeped out). In stead of fetching my tripod I took several photo's by hand. I have never used the tripod with my fairly new camera, allthough I have this Sony more then a year now. I know I should use the tripod more often, but somehow I find it difficult to use, not free in my movements.

How many bubbles can I squeeze out of this old Tamron lens? Innumerable apparently.
It all depends on how wet the tree branches are and where the light is coming from.

These two images are left full of grain and photographic character that sometimes I would remove in favour of smoother less noisy end results. Here these pictures are set to show the camera and lens being pushed to record the diminishing light. Photographically there are options of exposure including Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Here the options have been decided upon so as to create a slightly stressed look, rather than a smooth serene scene there is some strength to gnaw at with a taste of piquant pepper and even a dark sprinkling of crisp crunch to enliven the pictorial munch at every eye bite.
There is a quote and links around the Red sky at night and other weather lore below giving a source from the Gospel of Matthew to show our weather lore and other sayings even beliefs have old roots, not all religious texts.

Matthew 16:2-3, King James Version
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

An alternative to Horsehoe Bend is the amazing Goosenecks State Park where the San Juan River cuts a deep winding canyon.
Taken around dawn on Christmas Eve. Persistent smog helped create some special colors in this capture. I know a million people have taken this photo before, but I really enjoy my contribution. Covenant refers to the warmth and openness and security that is the promise of a place like San Francisco. And while it may fall short of that in many respects, it’s a noble place to begin.

"In the stillness of meditation, Shiva holds the universe within. The creator, the destroyer, the eternal force — he reminds us that from every ending comes a new beginning. The cosmic dance of life and death unfolds, yet through it all, Shiva remains unmoved, embodying the infinite power of transformation."
