We have had the pleasure this summer of watching many hummingbirds come to our yard. We have lots of shade on our property and there is a small window of opportunity for me to catch them in good light..Yesterday I watched this little beauty come and go and rest awhile.......I hope you enjoy this little female Ruby-throated Hummingbird..They are the sweetest little birds to watch. I love it when they wiz by my head and hover close........it's so cool.
Funny aside but my friend has Hummers come to her yard and they sit and perch on her clothesline. We don't have a clothesline but we strung out some twine near our back bunkie and voila!! They sure like to sit and perch on it. To those of you who have feeders out and can put out some rope or twine, I encourage you to try it. The other night I saw 6 Hummingbirds perched on it ;) Too dark for photos though..they come to feed even late in the evening.....The fun of watching them never stops!! :)
"Like all hummingbirds, ruby-throats are precision flyers with the ability to fly full out and stop in an instant, hang motionless in midair, and adjust their position up, down, sideways, and backwards with minute control. They dart between nectar sources with fast, straight flights or sit on a small twig keeping a lookout, bill waving back and forth as the bird looks around. Male Ruby-throated Hummingbirds aggressively defend flowers and feeders, leading to spectacular chases and dogfights, and occasional jabs with the beak. They typically yield to larger hummingbird species (in Mexico) and to the notoriously aggressive Rufous Hummingbird. Males give a courtship display to females that enter their territory, making a looping, U-shaped dive starting from as high as 50 feet above the female. If the female perches, the male shifts to making fast side-to-side flights while facing her."
My Sony camera problem has been resolved finally! The problem wasn't with my A500 after all. Turns out I had a defective G Series 300mm Lens and Sony Canada replaced it for me. Took awhile but I'm happy with the end result and still a loyal Sony fan!
Have a great day everyone!

A wingtip from RL-203 - the second last Arrow to fly before the program was scrapped the following day on "Black Friday" - February 20, 1959. Over 14,000 workers lost their job as a result of the highly controversial decision by the newly elected government to scrap the Arrow program. Many of them went on to brilliant careers in the the US defense industry and NASA.
I just love how well the RX1 Carl Zeiss 35mm F/1.4 Sonnar handled this shot. The flare is well tempered but enough of it comes through for a gorgeous effect. One of my favourite shots of the day.
These are a series of images from a two day Sony Canada Event. One was open, the second was invitation only where I got to use the much talked about RX1.
On the invitational walk, I had the opportunity to use the RX1 for the day, and it was a treat.
The amount of dynamic range and low noise of this camera is phenominal. I am comfortable to say that this just might be the best digital camera that I'm had the opportunity to shoot with.
When I get the chance, I'll post more on my Blog about this experience.
Thank you to Kerrisdale Cameras and to Courtney of Sony Canada to invite me to the events. I had the opportunity to try out a good chunk of the Sony suite of lenses and equipment, but I must admit I'm very much in love with the RX1

The look on this crew members face is great like he is saying did I remember to tighten that wheel? Maybe just under teh weather. Taken as part of the Sony Meet-Up group at the Toronto Honda Indy Qualifying. A big thanks to Sony Canada for providing pit access.

After honing his skills as a Financial Advisor, Patrick helped to pioneer the role of a Banking Consultant to one of Canada’s largest, financial institutions. He spent the next decade giving expert advice to countless industry professionals and institutions such as the Toronto Police Services and the Canadian Armed Forces. Companies like Sony Canada, Edward Jones, and Adidas Canada have benefited from his strategies in cashflow management. His radio interviews on TALK 640 have helped him to spread his message to many seeking financial advice. But his greatest and most rewarding contributions have been in changing the lives of thousands of Canadian families that he has helped in restructuring their debt, savings and day-to-day banking more efficiently. Now, as a Regional Vice-President, Patrick spends his time coaching and mentoring others to do the same.
I have applied an experiemental present I'm developing which I will just call at this stage, "Vintage Classic Professional Slide". The subject just called for the effect.
