I usually don't post photos of my family, but I had to share this one because of the spontaneity & tenderness of the moment. My son holds my little grandson as he is just getting up from his nap.
Thanks to my iphone!

Septimius Severus and his son Caracalla share some physiological and political traits.
Severus managed to bring some order to the period of anarchy that followed —or more likely predated – the demise of Commodus, of ‘Gladiator’ fame. He showed some talent at keeping at least some of the Roman aristocracy on side, while really establishing what was more or less a military dictatorship.
His son Lucius Septimius Bassianus, better known as Caracalla, didn’t hesitate in having his brother murdered upon co-inheriting power from his dad, and dispensed with the niceties of keeping part of the aristocracy on side. He had a most profound influence on the Roman world by extending citizenship to all of its freeborn denizens, but the lack of support for his autocracy outside the military led to his eventual assassination on a Syrian road, as well as an atrocious reputation that survives to this day.
This is an "alt" version of one of the photos in my new book, Where the Plow Cannot Find Them. I'm doing a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money to print it (it will be hardback, and I need to at least break even). Any help you give is very helpful.

But let me tell you about the photo.
This is one of the strangest graves I've come across: the grave of Joseph Adelman. Joseph was a member of a Jewish community that emigrated to North Dakota. His memorial is a roughly-constructed tin box with his name in English punched into it Joseph was a member of a Jewish community that emigrated to North Dakota. His memorial is a roughly-constructed tin box with his name in English punched into it on one side, and his name written in Hebrew on the other.
The community was started in 1884 by millionaire Baron De Heruh of New York City, whose claim was that he wanted to help poor Jewish families by sending them west. He hired a few agents to look for farmable land in Dakota Territory, and they returned with enough room for fifty families. All they had to do was give the millionaire $1000 per family.
The baron soon got his money, and fifty families (most originally from Ukraine) journeyed to Dakota. Unfortunately, very few of them were farmers, and most lasted only a few years, returning east. Twenty families managed to tough it out through the "dry years" of the late 1880s. Joseph Adelman, his brothers, and his father were among them.
Over time, the community dispersed, and the families moved away. The last burial in the cemetery was in 1935. Joseph Adelman died on August 14, 1907.on one side, and his name written in Hebrew on the other.

- Ti son mancata?
- Tantissimissimo.
- Come che cosa?
- Come la notte ai vampiri.
- Poi?
- Come il latte ai corn flakes.
- Poi?
- Come il terzino che salva di testa sulla linea, al portiere.
- Poi?
- Come la benzina allo Zippo.
- Poi?
- Come la pera al cacio.
- Poi?
- Come le labbra al bacio.
Son Vapur
son vapur degildi seni uzaklara götüren
son telefonundu beni öldüren
yüregim yerinden çikmişti
o gün ölmedigime hala hayret ediyorum
birşeyi çok iyi biliyorum ki
o gün kurumuştu göz damarlarim
ve ben
o günden sonra
seni görmedikçe hiç aglamadim...
