Ride Sally Ride

A new hat, an old scarf, and a new jumper. Also a whole lot of winter knitwear!

This is another week where the photo I had in my head didn't match up to what I could take, so I've gone for a side profile rather than from the front.

Taken for the Active Assignment Weekly! group. This week's assignment: Something Old and Something New.

WIT: meeting up with a friend who's house sitting, and petsitting Tulamene the turtle, and Snoopy the cat, we coaxed them into the room for this tandem shot with some extra culinary delights. Models are hard to work with, so this turned out to be the only good shot with both in the frame.

Tulamene is an old lady, wise beyond her years, knows a good thing when she sees it, and can be surprisingly fast on her feet. Snoopy on the other hand, is a still a teenager in cat years. He's rather laid back though, only playful with the right incentive, otherwise he's indifferent to any wild and crazy activity.

And about the "Dare' (Make the “old” look strong and full of life. Not old and used up) – having met Tulamene, she's nothing short of spry, even for a turtle!

The skirt is new. The grass is new :) Although the weather may look fantastic, it's actually freezing cold outside! I just love how there's color in this photo, and some movement. I feel like the grass is swaying back and forth.

I kind of wish it was more focused on my skirt, but at the same time, I love the shadows of the grass on my toes! Today has overall been a quite successful day for photography :) Enjoy!

113 in 2013: # 74 Something New

Have you ever lost yourself between the leaves and in the middle of sunsets? You know become so entangled and intrigued into whatever it was that you lost yourself. You put so much of yourself into the waves crashing against the shorlines, the stars dancing across the sky, the wind caressing your cheek, that you lost yourself. Have you ever invested time that you can't get back into someone and lost yourself so deep into their heart, that when you look in the mirror you don't know who you are anymore.

film from winter break.

I didn't try any new techniques this week, but we did install a new kitchen sink. The reflected ceiling lights provided all the color and reflections here. It's straight out of the camera.

WIT: funny, but when I took this photo, it never occurred to me to use it for the assignment. It was only as I uploaded shots from a photowalk that I realized how great this would fit for the theme! As for 'what it took'... some Flickerites were to group together for a walk through the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver, but I knew I'd be late due to a prior commitment. Yet, I did manage to hook up with one member who also missed the bunch. We had a relaxed stroll and both came away with terrific experiences for our efforts.

Oh, and this shot was taken outside an artist's studio, from which many other old pieces of history are serving new purposes. So for the dare (make the “old” look strong and full of life – not old and used up) I'd like to think it's accomplished, simply by how the tub is holding up in our weather conditions, not rusting out with big holes or chunks missing.

#74 of 113 of 2013, Something New

Something different.

Linda from A Swap for All Seasons hosted a "Something Old, Something New..." wedding themed swap. My partner was Cathy of Treasured Heirlooms. I will let her post the pictures to the group, but wanted upload the pictures to my own file--so here they are. These are the packages as they were shipped. I had turquoise tissue paper wrapped in ivory netting. The tags identified the items and I used paper and ribbon that tied everything together.

So, I've tried to make something really new, using my friend's gear.

Ok, I took this shot with my good old 400D, it's not too ordinary. But (!) the guy, who you can see in the middle and the person who is holding this tube thingy is the same. It's a focusing screen (for DSLRs), but in this case, my friend uses it in a DOF adapter with his Canon HV20 HD video camera. The camera records the picture, what you can see on this focusing screen. On the other side, there is a Canon bayonet, so every EF and EF-S lenses can be attached.

Unfortunately the picture on the focusing screen appaers flipped both vertically and horizontally. So this shot is flipped vertically.

I made it with a 50 mm lens, and on the end of the DOF adapter there is a 18-55 kit lens.

Finally the light from my friend's face to my 400D's sensor went through 17 lens.

something new i have in the works - revisiting old processes and ways to make art.

Here’s something new we had to install. No we don’t have a new baby, but we do have a new puppy that hasn’t gotten the idea of not peeing wherever she wants.

We did have a small gate up in this doorway to keep the Chihuahua’s out but it wasn’t long before Suki learned to just jump over it. So a trip to Target and now we have an official Baby gate installed. This one is 36 inches tall. Hopefully by the time Suki learns to jump over this one she can control her bladder.

On this ATC I used Tim Holtz's Alcohol Inks, which I have had in my stash and never used. Unfortunately, the colors look better in real life than in this photo. I used Lemonade, Peach Bellini and Metalic Gold and then stamped over it with Staz-On jet black. The gemstones are a gold. (I am recharging my camera batteries hopefully that will help in the future. lol!)

we hear too many versions of everything.

Taken at Venice Beach as an alternative for a challenge, however, at another stretch it may work for my 113 Pictures! This is the, almost complete, new Sharkey's restaurant overlooking the beach.
