My favorite movies in random order(from left to right; from top to bottom):

1. Singin' in the rain The classic musical from 1952 with Gene Kelly. Actually one of the best musicals: Good songs and humorous.

2. The Gods must be crazy A movie I saw for the first time by coincidence when looking for something good to watch on TV. This movie was a real surprise!

3. Victor/Victoria Another musical. To earn money the character played by Julie Andrews starts performing as a man who dresses up as a woman.

4. The Nightmare before Christmas One of the two Tim Burton movies in my Desert Island Challenge. I would love to see the 3d version but it has not been in the cinemas here in the Netherlands yet.

5. The Producers I have seen the stage version in London, the same day we travelled from my hometown to Londen. Everything went wrong during that trip and we were just in time for the musical to start. Then we heard that two of the main actors we wanted to see (Nathan Lane and James Dreyfus) were not in that evening's performance. The great songs in the musical and the performances of the actors (like Lee Evans) made it for us a great evening after a disasterous day.

6. Four Weddings and a funeral Actually I just enjoyed this movie and I don't have anything special to say about it.

7. Raiders of the Lost Ark I like the whole Indiana Jones series, but I guess this episode is my favorite. And looking forward to the next episode!

8. The Sound of Music The second movie I saw in a cinema. Still makes me happy to hear the songs and sing a long. It was also great to see (and join in) the sing-a-long version in the theatre.

9. Mary Poppins The first movie I ever saw in a cinema. Oh, to see a giant movie screen for the first time! Also in this movie great songs. Later I have seen the stage version in London. I just realised that there are three Julie Andrews movies in my top 24.

10. Beautiful thing A british movie about the blooming relationship and love between two gay adolescents. Great music by the Mama's & Papa's and Cass Elliot.

11. The Blues Brothers One night I went to the cinema with a friend and we decided to see a Peter Sellers movie (The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu) which disappointed us. After the movie had ended we decided to see another movie that same evening and that was "The Blues Brothers". Terrific music! Funny and over the top scenes with car chases.

12. Big Fish A touching and funny movie made by Tim Burton about the relationship between a father and a son.

13. Ferris Bueller's Day Off Very funny how Ferris (Matthew Broderick) talks to the camera.

14. Harry Potter I like all the Harry Potter films and books.

15. James Bond : Live and Let die I like all the Bond movies, but this is my favorite. I like the tong-in-cheek humour of Roger Moore. The first Bond movie I ever saw was "Diamonds Are Forever" with Sean Connery.

16. Some Like it Hot Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis. Great to see how the guys dress up as girls and how they look and move then.

17. Shirley Valentine I met a couple of the actors (not the main actors: the old couple who wanted proper English food in the Greek restaurant) when I was having a holiday at the Greek Isle of Mykonos, when they were filming there.

18. Oliver! The musical. As a kid of 12 or so I was completely in love with Mark Lester, who plays the title role.

19. Ja Zuster, Nee Zuster (Yes Nurse No Nurse) A Dutch movie based on a sixties TV series. This version is quite camp and features the most popular songs from the TV series. Loes Luca plays the Nurse.

20. Star Wars IV Of all the Star Wars movies this was the first one made and it's still my favorite one of the series. I remember seeing this movie in the Cinerama cinema in Rotterdam, which had a gigantic screen. And on this that first scene where you bit by bit see what seems at first a small space ship but then turns out to be as big as a planet! Also the sound of this movie was excellent!

21. Manhattan One of Woody Allen's best and I like most of his movies. In this movie specially the openings scene showing New York accompanied by the music of Gershwin's Rapsody in Blue.

22. Torch Song Trilogy Based on a play by Harvey Fierstein. He also plays the main character in this movie: Arnold.

23. The Big Chill College friends reunite when one of their friends has committed suicide. Great soundtrack.

24. Etre et Avoir Sweet and touching documentary of a small school in France. I went to the cinema for a second time to see it and now I own it on DVD (as I do all of the above mentioned movies)

Here's my challenge for CD's.

The intelligent stage actor Dieter Borsche (1909-1982) was in the decades after WW II the most popular male star of the German cinema. He was the ideal prince, doctor, and officer, but also played a crossdresser in a precursor of Some Like It Hot.

Dieter Borsche started in 1930 as a ballet dancer and after a successful acting instruction, he went to work in the theater in 1935 and entered the film business, with a role in Alles weg'n dem Hund (1935, Fred Sauer). One of his next films, Preußische Liebesgeschichte (1938, Paul Martin) was forbidden because of the affair of costar Lída Baroová with Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. Finally, in 1950 the film could have its premiere as Liebesgeschichte. Borsche took also part in such productions as Die Geliebte (1939, Gerhard Lamprecht) but a breakthrough was refused for the time being.

After the war, Dieter Borsche worked again in the theatre and in the following decades, he became respected as a very intelligent stage actor. Soon he also became one of the most popular German post-war film stars. His breakthrough was the role of a chaplain in the melodrama Nachtwache (1948, Harald Braun). He proved to be the ideal actor for such honest, incorruptible characters as an officer in Es kommt ein Tag (1950, Rudolf Jugert), a doctor in Dr. Holl (1951, Rolf Hansen) and a prince in Königliche Hoheit (1953, Harald Braun). He only played out of character as an out of work musician who crossdresses to get a job in a female orchestra in the precursor of Some Like It Hot: Fanfaren der Liebe (1951, Kurt Hoffmann). He was the charming partner of Ruth Leuwerik, Nadja Tiller and Marika Rökk in such box office hits as Vater braucht eine Frau (1952, Harald Braun), Die Barrings (1955, Rolf Thiele), Königin Luise (1957, Wolfgang Liebeneiner) and Nachts im grünen Kakadu (1957, Georg Jacoby). He also played in international productions including Ali Baba et les quarante voleurs (1954, Jacques Becker) with Fernandel and the war drama A Time to Love and a Time to Die (1958, Douglas Sirk), based on the novel by Erich Maria Remarque.

The 1960s marked the busiest decade in the career of Dieter Borsche. He appeared as a villain in popular crime films of the Edgar Wallace series including Die toten Augen von London (1961, Alfred Vohrer), Der Schwarze Abt (1963, Franz Josef Gottlieb) and Der Henker von London (1963, Edwin Zbonek). He confirmed his acting abilities on stage with Erwin Piscator, on tv and in films like the thriller Der Rote Rausch (1962, Wolfgang Schleif), Der Schut (1964, Robert Siodmak) based on an adventure novel by Karl May and Der Pfarrer von St. Pauli (1970, Rolf Olsen). He suffered from muscle atrophy for many years and he had to cut down his activity and from the 1970’s on he did mainly radio plays and played stage parts in a wheelchair.

Business Travel 101: Hotels

(This week, Kagami presents the finer points of hotels in business travel.)

It's a pleasure being able to enjoy that quiet cup of coffee in your room before going to work -- or downstairs to the breakfast area with colleagues -- where you have to have your game face "on".

I've watched her for years, been aboard, inside, even acted as a go-between for a prospective buyer (who contacted me after seeing my photos of her online). She is beautifully cared for. She is berthed in Long Beach's Alamitos Bay.

This was an experiment on still life for my Advertising Photo Illustration class. It's a good thing I shoot people for a living because I have no patience for still life. i.e. I can't tell it what to do like I can with models ;) I ended up with a B :P

Two musicians witness a mob hit and flee the state in an all female band disguised as women. It’s a very funny movie as Tony Curtis in drag woos Marilyn Monroe who sings and plays the ukulele and Jack Lemmon in drag is wooed by Joe E. Brown. Mayhem ensues as they try to keep their true identities hidden.

While I tried to get my boyfriend to dress up like a woman in an ode to the classic 1959 movie Some Like It Hot, he had other ideas, so I'm using this vintage shot from camp. Russell, on the right, was playing a woman in a talent show skit.

Wouldn't want the fires to reach this laquered up wood...

I miss Asian food soooo much here in Greece that each Sunday I make a new dish and introduce my 'greek' family to new flavours.

Now it's becoming a ritual....

Here's the menu for todays lunch

Spicy chilli pork mince with jasmine rice. Garlic oyster mushrooms. Steamed broccoli with sesame seeds and sweet soy sauce. cucumber and lettuce salad.

And of course a glass or two of a light sav blanc.

Recipe for Spicey chilli pork mince (serves 8 people)

500 gms lean pork mince

5 large red capsicums (chopped)

1 cup water chestnuts (chopped)

4-5 large cloves of garlic (chopped)

3-4 hot chillies (or to taste) I leave them whole so that the brave ones can eat them while the others can pick them out.

1 generous handful of coriander, basil and mint (chopped).

2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh ginger

2 tbl spoons soy sauce

1/3 of a cup oyster sauce

1 teaspoon sugar

2 tbl spoons sunflower oil

1 tbl spoon apple vinegar

1 cup water.

Put garlic, ginger, water chestnuts, capsicums, water and chillies in a large wok over a high heat bring to the boil, cook for 5min add pork mince and cook until capsicums are tender and then add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, vinegar and oil cook for another 3 min, turn heat off and add the coriander, basil and mint.

serve on a bed of steam jasmine rice.

Zzzowie!
