Appearing in the 1959 comedy "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, the classic 1928 fantail motor yacht "Portola" is a gem that has been maintained with TLC. She is a popular filming locale to this day. I've been aboard and inside her, but I've not yet been able to convince her owner that we should take her out for sea trials!
Update (around 2020 or early 2021): Portola left Alamitos Bay with a new owner. I'd heard she would be moved to the east coast. She was like an old friend and is missed.
Update 4/29/2021 While in the Caribbean at Gustavia,
St Barthélemy Portola caught fire. It 'apparently' was repairable www.sbhonline.com/forums/showthread.php/101078-Yacht-catc...

The joy of my back lacing design is that the clothes can flex to fit different body shapes ☺️ My Poppy Parker Spice is on an FR6 body which I think enhances her Marilyn vibes and I think she brings an extra element of va va voom to this hot pink dress!

Czech postcard by Pressfoto, Praha (Prague). Photo: Jack Lemmon and Joe E. Brown in Some Like it Hot (Billy Wilder, 1959). Collection: Carla Bosch.
Carla: Joe E. Brown is a millionaire and in love with Jack Lemmon's character. Jack cannot tell either he is a man, so he goes through with it, but eventually has to confess to Joe he is a man when Joe asks to marry him. Joe is in love and won’t be deterred: “Well, nobody’s perfect”.
The topics of homosexuality and men wearing drag costumes and make-up were taboo in those days. But times have changed. It is considered to be one of the best films and comedies of all times.

Update: April 2021; I've enjoyed seeing and photographing Portola (including twice being aboard) for about 20 years. Now with new owners she has moved from this anchorage. If I find any details I'll post here.

We've had a lot of sultry hot days this summer, Ashley loves the sun but I do not! I would be happier sat in front of a fan - Ashley is always found lying in the sunniest spot in the house.

Norma Jeane Mortensen Baker (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962), professionally recognized as Marilyn Monroe, was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s.
After spending much of her childhood in foster homes, Monroe began a career as a model, which led to a film contract in 1946 with Twentieth Century-Fox. Her early film appearances were minor, but her performances in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve (both 1950) drew attention to her. By 1953, Monroe had progressed to a leading role in Niagara (1953), a melodramatic film noir that dwelled on her seductiveness. Her “dumb blonde” persona was used to comic effect in subsequent films such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and The Seven Year Itch (1955). Limited by typecasting, Monroe studied at the Actors Studio to broaden her range. Her dramatic performance in Bus Stop (1956) was hailed by critics, and she received a Golden Globe nomination. Her production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, released The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), for which she received a BAFTA Award nomination and won a David di Donatello award. She received a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Some Like It Hot (1959). Monroe’s final completed film was The Misfits, co-starring Clark Gable with the screenplay written by her then-husband, Arthur Miller.

One of my lineups that I enjoy while eating wings.
Kiss of FIre is an older CaJohns sauce. I had one many years ago, so I had to get it again. Strong heat.
Give'r has a thick, chunky Ontario peaches base with Fatalii and Aji Limon peppers. Limes, apple cider vinegar. Fine stuff.
Damn! Habanero from Quebec. So creamy, and great Hab flavour. They also make the Saguenay Blues which is a very tasty blueberry hot sauce powered by the Reaper (again). Honey, Maple syrup and a few more things. Fantastique!
Stargazer from Pepper North - Scotch Bonnet and Ghost - oh my! A chilehead delight. Ontario made, too; as is the Give'r from Sorry Sauce.
Another Reaper found in Foo Foo Mama Choo from High River Sauces. Straight forward, just the usual sauce ingredients, but then that Carolina heat. My 2nd or 3rd bottle??

Carla: Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis play two musicians who are on the run after they have witnessed a murder. They dress up as women and join a female jazz band. In this picture, they are playing a bass (Jack Lemmon), and a saxophone (Tony Curtis). Tony is in love with Marilyn, but cannot tell her he is a man, so instead, he tries to become best friends with her.

The "Hotel Del" is the Hotel del Coronado on Coronado Island. Maybe you saw it in "Some Like It Hot," the Billy Wilder comedy with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis. (For the movie's purposes, the hotel is supposed to be in Florida.) It faces Coronado Beach -- the part of it known locally as Central Beach -- and the Pacific Ocean.
