Why is the time right for Solutionary Rail?
Practically speaking, Solutionary Rail is a solution
to our crumbling transportation infrastructure – particularly roads and bridges. If we can move long-haul freight from trucks back to rail, wear and tear on roads and bridges will be reduced, congestion and accidents will be reduced.
Electrified trains are working around the world – and they’ve worked in the United States before as well.
SR is also a solution to the roadblocks we face in terms of distribution of renewable energy (wind and solar).
[Explain the illustration: lower lines that power the train, upper lines that are the green energy superhighway.] That’s why we say that Solutionary Rail is a campaign to electrify the railroads and “open corridors to a clean energy future.”
And that’s why Solutionary Rail could also be an important part of how we survive the existential threat of climate change: an electrified transportation and power infrastructure gives us and our children a fighting chance to meet the climate goals we helped set in Paris.

I first started photographing graffiti in 1999, and in 2000 I setup a website to share my photos. Initially a mix of different subjects, but it soon became almost entirely of graffiti. I uploaded over 6000 photos to this site. Eventually Flickr came along a few years later and I started using that instead, and stopped updating the website. I shut it down completely a few years ago.
I occasionally get requests from people for photos of pieces by specific graffiti writers, and I thought it might be a good idea to upload them all to Flickr.
Most of these photos were taken on film, scanned, and saved at a small size, back in the day when people were still using 56k modems to connect to the internet and small filesizes were desirable. So apologies for the quality and size for some of these. Someday I'd like to get them all scanned in again at a higher resolution.
