Prototype of an organic solar module. OPV holds a lot of promise for building integrated PV, such as solar windows.
The south side of the terraced houses have big windows and balconies.
PlusEnergy homes produce more energy than they consume. All of the houses in this neighbourhood have large photovoltaic roofs. The supplementary income heavily outweighs the low additional building costs. All houses are wooden and built only with healthy building materials.
There are no parking places around the houses nor in the narrow streets. The street sign says that cars have to adapt to walking people and playing children. For the cars there´s instead a parking garage underneath the nearby service center building. The inhabitants who want so can participate in a well organized Car-Sharing system. At the service center there are also stops for the city trams.

The 2.04-kilowatt grid-tied solar electric (photovoltaic or PV) system on the Edwards home in Colorado generates clean, carbon-free electricity. Generous utility and government rebates make PV systems affordable for many homeowners and builders in Colorado. Namaste Solar Electric of Boulder, Colorado, installed this system, which features 12 Sharp 170-watt panels and a PV Powered Inverter. Retrofitting solar equipment to an existing house is easier and less disruptive if the original builder makes the house solar-ready.
the solar cell receives the flickering laser beam with the audio data and it generates enough electricity from the light to create a signal that the wire picks up
Perovskite material on glass substrates with transparent contact. This material is used to make thin-film solar cells. The different color is due to the different amount of Bromine in the perovskite material. More info: magazine.imec.be/data/59/reader/reader.html?t=14460188381...

Skytech Solar is a local bay area solar company, located in Potrero Hill that has completed over 400 Residential Solar Panel installations in the City of San Francisco. What are the advantages of solar energy?
Short bits of protein called peptides form various shapes (see Sprung Out #1) when deposited on a specially prepared surface by an electrospray method. With soft-landing techniques, the peptides fashion themselves into stable helices (in red).

Much annoyance today. We've taken delivery of a couple of display screens in work (basically big tellies) and have been waiting for an installation date which was finally agreed as the 9th April. As it's the Easter holiday, I stayed at home today. Until the email landed. They only bloody turned up today, so I guess it's a good job that I wasn't in Helsinki!
While I was in work, I grabbed a random building shot.
I've always been pretty clear on my feelings that solar power in Britain is a bit of a joke. I do recognise that that contains both cynicism and bigotry as it's not completely fair and it's not completely accurate.
The energy targets for new public buildings are phenomenally strict, and one of the ways you can help to meet them is by building in renewable generation such as wind turbines and solar panels.
Wind turbines give planning headaches as they're a bit noisy and a bit ugly. Solar panels are a bit less effective but much easier to keep out of site if you've got a nice big flat roof!
Given my cynicism I was surprised at how much power this one can produce - in theory.
I seem to recall that the spec on this one is such that on an absolutely belting bright summer day it will produce up to 36kW.
Now admittedly, it will probably only do that for about ten hours in a year, but that's still a LOT of power to pull from some sunlight. :)

The largely transparent roof structure which covers all the tracks over a length of 250 meters, flood the platforms with light. The glass plates of the roof vary the level of light transmittance by utilizing different solar cells patterns, which produce an ever-changing and fascinating play of shadows on the platforms.

Would it be usefull to have a local weather forcast for solar plants? Imec believes it would. Researchers have created a new model that delivers much more accurate predictions of how much electricity a specific type of solar cell will produce in specific conditions; especially in the short term. NREL researcher holds a perovskite ink painted cell.
NREL researchers have developed an interdigitated back contact solar cell design in which the metals and transport materials are solution processed by either ink jet or spray coating. Combined with a perovskite ink formulation with a low boiling point (<80 C) allows "paintable" solar cells.
