While we were in Sedona, we saw many beautiful pictures of Cathedral Rock. It is the most photographed location in Sedona, and the folks at the visitor center were able to tell us exactly where to go to take this picture. It was taken at the Red Rock Crossing/Crescent Moon Ranch Picnic Area in Sedona, Arizona. Because the range of light was more than the camera sensor could handle, I bracketed using three exposures, and then combined them using HDR sofware from Photomatix Pro.

spent the beginning of 2013 in a Starbucks (I hate coffee) doing work while it was pouring outside the entire day. I ended up staring at this table outside the window for about 5 hours so I figured I might as well grab a shot before I went home - and this is how year 3 of the 365 project has begun.
My resolution for this year's project will be post processing. I do almost no post work because a) I don't have decent sofware b) I don't know how c) I am lazy. Well, my borther rememedied A for me by getting me Lightroom 4 for Christmas. I am trying to remedy B by taking a Creative Live class on Lightroom, and well, there is no remedy for C but we'll figure it out. So, expect to see better looking post work in the very near future...

IMHO, I think she nailed the look, costume, and accessories used in the Suicide Squad movie by Dr. Quinzel (Margot Robbie, see link for comparison). She is reading the exact same paperback novel and even had a dainty little espresso cup (nothing in it, of course). The negative space around the cosplayer really makes her brightly colored costume and hair just "pop" out at you. Except for using Nik Sofware's Dfine to smooth out some textures, no further corrections with PS (healing & clone brushes) to enhance the cosplayer's costume, hair, or skin were done.

We managed to miss the rain that threatened all afternoon with increasingly stormy looking clouds ..but it passed us by and the next day was lovely and sunny so we could explore the very upmarket town of Henley!
This is Temple Island on the River Thames just north of Henley-on-Thames.the island lies at the start of the course for Henley Royal Regatta.
The ornamental temple was built as a fishing lodge in 1771 for a nearby country house.
In 1987 the regatta stewards leased the island for 999 years and restored the temple, which had fallen into disrepair, it is now used for weddings, parties & corporate events with guests arriving by boat..
Just came out of the lock going upstream..the sky looked very threatening and sure enough it tipped down just afterwards..the Thames is lovely in the sunshine but not quite so good in the pouring rain!
My wife likes Halloween so it was an opportunity for her to dress up, and we decided to document her costume after going to friends' house to see the trick or treaters. We live in a rural neighborhood with no street lights and no trick or treaters.
I used the same lighting setup for both pictures, and only varied the camera settings a little. Most of the difference in the appearance is due to the poses and the way I treated the images in Photoshop CC. For the image on the right, I used Nik Sofware's Silver Efex Pro to do the yellowish black and white old timey conversion. These pictures were taken no more than five minutes apart.
I lit this with one YN560 in a 24 inch soft box camera left and very close to Maria. Fill light came from a large silver disc reflector. The flash was in manual mode and was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. If I wanted to make the one on the right even harsher, I could have used a bare flash and moved it farther away. The rule of thumb is that the larger the light source and the closer it is to the subject the softer that light is.

It is a controversial and very different building with it's flower petal inspired cladding..I visited the library and loved the internal space and the 3 roof terraces on the 4th, 7th and 9th floor..the views are amazing..
Riding in the back of a gorgous classic car a few years back. Couldn't help but take this shot. So natural, so free. Can't beat Washington summers! Sometimes it's fun to go back and revisit older photos with what newer sofware has to offer. Not only the newer software but as the years go by my retouching hand tends to become softer and more natural. I'm less infatuated with sharpening, and I find it easier to take a look at an image as a whole. Take a look at your images in thumbnail view. Don't get lost in the zoom. Often this will help you decide, whether an image is worth editing/posting or not.

We grow Iris in our garden, and for years I have taken pictures of the beautiful flowers. I don't recall every converting one to black and white before. Today I was playing around with a picture I recently posted in color, and decided to convert it to black and white using NIK Sofware's Silver Efex Pro. I love the beautiful tones in this, and think the textures show better than the colored version.
