I learned how to make soft boiled eggs recently and have fallen in love with them. Such a great experience to eat them.
A soft boiled egg. I am also learning how to cook crispy bacon. A nice poached egg will be my challenge.
Often my breakfast of choice.
I enjoy food photography and I hope to do more this year .
Avocado Toast with a Soft Boiled Egg
A breakfast scene. To be coupled with the farmer's market eggs from a week or two ago, I think. Closeup to follow. Thanks for looking!

Today was Megan's first lunch at preschool - she's been dying to join in for ages and I finally relented, chose a funky lunchbox for her, and signed her up for Monday lunches.
I've decided that Monday will also be eggy lunch day for Eli and I - eggs feature so rarely in his diet due to Megan's allergy. It has been years since I had soft boiled eggs and I'd been looking forward to these all morning. Eli quite enjoyed the 'dip dip' aspect, and crushing the empty eggshells, but was less enamoured by egg white on its own. Next week: omlette
Back from a weeklong gruelling mission, all Stormtrooper Bruce wants to do now is eat and go to bed.
Vader: Sorry for the late intrusion but Palpatine wanted me to personally congratulate you on your successful mission. He was most pleased with the capture of those rebels.
STB: It's always a pleasure to do my master's bidding. Just wish we could have captured more of them.
Vader: Even so, you managed to capture their base leader. Once he and the others are well enough I will begin the interrogations.
STB: I wish you much success.
Vader: I know it's late and I see you are taking your meal, but I have to ask - what is that you're eating?
STB: Oh, is THAT why you're hovering? It's called breakfast. Haven't you ever had breakfast for dinner?
Vader: I think I did once. But I've never had a breakfast like that!
STB: It's a terran breakfast. It's taken me months to collect all the ingredients. This last mission I found the last bit I was needing. And voilà' ... this feast you see before me!
Vader: I must admit I've never seen anything like it.
STB: And it smells as good as it looks.
Vader: Don't rub it in.
STB: Sorry, sir.
Vader: I doubt that. But anyway, it's late and I'm starving. Can I have a little bite?
STB: Help yourself, sir. I may have sneezed on it but I don’t think it’s anything contagious.
Vader: Somehow I’m not surprised. I'll be leaving now.
STB: Um... you're still hovering.

The INSIDE is running OUT of this warm soft- boiled egg.
Since I have pet hens, my basket of eggs, runneth over!
Today, I learned how to make the perfect Soft-Boiled Egg to eat with toast soldiers.
An egg like this is just right for scooping daintily from the shell and eating with buttered toast soldiers, an experience that always feels simultaneously sophisticated and happily childlike to me.
...with Karen and Xenia...
at Tablespoon, in Lindfield
We almost forgot to pay! lol... remembered at the last moment...
How many do you know that decide it's a good idea to eat themselves?
Even if they do taste good with walnut bread soldiers, a dash of salt and a sprinkling of black pepper.
Om nom nom.
I know you'd love to:
Yes, I still have my weekly Sunday morning breakfast routine. Having breakfast in sunshine on the balcony is a great way to start the day, isn't it? :D
I'm in a very good mood because Germany won yesterday and is in the semifinal now :)

It's been another long week, and Stormtrooper Bruce wants to prove to the guys that, yes, it's safe to enjoy Movie Night once again! And although STB promises no more shenanigans, at least for a while, the guys know it's only a matter of time.
TK-432: Wow! This is awesome! I lovelovelove breakfast for dinner!
TK-1110: After a month of Christmas in July, I wasn't sure what to expect. But this is a great way to kick off a new month. Except I think you're gonna need a bigger buffet at the rate we're going.
STB: I have to admit, I've been looking forward to this! Easy peasy and totally delicious, even the fruit tray - which you two better sample!
TK-432: Dude! Fruit? You know we don't like healthy food. I mean, lookit my plate!
TK-1110: Um, your plate? What about all that milk your drinking - what's up with that?
TK-432: Sorry, but I just love milk mustaches, even strawberry ones. This breakfast for dinner is amazing, I can't wait to see what we're having for breakfast!
STB: Milk mustaches? What are you, three? Anyway, the plan is breakfast for dinner, and cold pizza for breakfast! How's that sound?
TK-432: Um, about that... you DO know that's not a shark guarding the pizza box, right?
STB: Um, about that, it's the best I do at the last minute. It's called Plan B. And if you must know, his name is Mr. Jaws. So, that kinda works, right?
TK-1110: Works for me. I'll just stay put, enjoy my breakfast and cross my fingers you don't hide him and expect us to find him before the night is over.

I love my Sunday routines.
In the morning I go to the bakery and buy a fresh bun for breakfast. One half I eat with Nutella, the other half with strawberry jam and I drink a cappuccino.
Crazy fact: I eat my soft-boiled egg with mustard instead of salt. My dad always did this and someday I tried it too and now I can't eat my egg without mustard :)
In the afternoon I go to sauna during the winter season. It's very relaxing and also very healthy :)
I wish I could take a picture inside the sauna, maybe a close up of the skin with all the sweat. But unfortunately it's too hot inside for the camera and also it's a public sauna, so there are other people who could be shocked if I would take pictures there, haha. So all you get is a crappy cell phone mirror picture from the locker room in the comments.

Remembering seeing this handwritten recipe addressed by Nabokov to Maxime de la Falaise for her cooking book at the NYPL ( New York Public Library).
"Boil water in a saucepan (bubbles mean it is boiling!). Take two eggs (for one person) out of the refrigerator. Hold them under the hot tap water to make them ready for what awaits them. Place each in a pan, one after theother, and let them slip soundlessly into the (boiling) water. Consult your wristwatch. Stand over them with a spoon preventing them (they are apt to roll) from knocking against the damned side of the pan. If, however, an egg cracks in the water (now bubbling like mad) and starts to disgorge a cloud of white stuff like a medium in an old fashioned seance, fish it out and throw it away. Take another and be more careful. After 200 seconds have passed, or, say, 240 (taking interruptions into account), start scooping the eggs out. Place them, round end up, in two egg cups. With a small spoon tap-tap in a circle and hen pry open the lid of the shell. Have some salt and buttered bread (white) ready. Eat."
I recently visited that very PA Dutch Amish farm were this egg came from. For a historical review of the sickness mess we are in, see these comments.

A morning of writing album reviews for a couple of online sites (Rocking Magpie and Spiral Earth) followed by soft-boiled eggs that turned out to be of perfect consistency after a 6 minute boil....
Week 37 in 52 Weeks for Dogs and Tasku is three today. Her birthday has crept up on me with the result that all I could find in the local shops yesterday was a little egg cup with a '3' on it. So today she had a birthday breakfast of a soft boiled egg and then I very nearly forgot to upload the photo!
