the suns reflection and refraction in soap bubbles

Soap and water mixture in an 18mm ring; ISO 100, F8, 1/160 sec exposure, artificial light (no flash)

...is an extremely thin film of soapy water enclosing air that forms a hollow sphere with an iridescent surface.

Dishwashing liquid bubbles

Colours and patterns arising from the interference of reflected light rays on a thin film of water and soap held in a tiny frame (a 'bubble wand'). The inner circle which I use for these photos measures 18mm but this shot, and two in the Comments, are just a tiny area within that circle.

Using some washing up liquid (Tesco's own brand!) with some water added - it's so tempting to try this out using different soaps! The colours are very slightly brightened - otherwise the soap film is completely natural.

A bit of fun with soap bubbles for this weeks theme - Abstract

This one is cropped quite a bit, just showing a tiny area which is much smaller than the previous one, so doesn't enlarge much unfortunately. Still working on the difficult DoF, trying to get the mix of soap, water and sugar right, struggling with the position of lights (natural and otherwise) and the angle of the camera in relation to the soap film - will hopefully work it all out eventually!

"Prestige ist eine Seifenblase, die sofort platzt, wenn man sie selber aufbläst." (Heinz Hilpert)

Diese Seifenblase habe ich bei einem Fotokurs fotografiert, den ich vor kurzem gemacht habe. Seitdem ist mir zumindest der Zusammenhang zwischen Blende, Belichtung und ISO einigermaßen klar geworden.

This soap bubble I photographed in a photo training course that I've made recently. Since then I realized at least the relationship between aperture, exposure and ISO.

Theme : Bubble (MM)

It looked like the bubbles under the soap are carrying it (okay, I saw Ant-Man yesterday, maybe it influenced my imagination ='))

One of my soap films (taken with the new camera) which has appeared on a few websites and newspapers this week including the Daily Mail, London Metro, Yahoo News and The Daily Record (see in the Comments below for some of the links)

The inner circle which I use for these photos measures 18mm. This latest series of shots are of tiny areas within that ring.

My passion for opal stones has made these soap bubbles irresistible to me.

This is one of the cheapest projects I have ever done, a little water, washing up liquid and glycerin. Add to that a flash gun, a round diffuser and some black cloth then snap away. You don't even need a macro lens, your kit lens will do. For further information go to www.digital-photography-school.com/how-photograph-sheer-b.... and join the addiction.

One of several shots from last night. I really had decided not to take any of these for a while as I've now taken so many and they are all a bit similar! So, after this and the few others I'll also upload soon (also from last night), I'm definitely having a long rest from these (I need to get onto something new!!)

I used my usual tiny frame (a child's 'bubble wand'); the diameter of the circle measures 18mm. The above shot is a small section of soap film within that ring - perhaps a 20th part.

The patterns and colours are natural apart from being brightened in Photoshop.

First time I've tried using Zubbles - I bought some in blue recently as I wondered if they've give a different effect under a macro lens. The mixture is extremely thin and watery and starts off with brilliant colours which unfortunately only last for a few seconds.

I used my usual tiny frame (a child's 'bubble wand'). The diameter of the inner circle (which contains the soap) measures 18mm. There is another shots in the Comments.

The patterns and colours are natural apart from being brightened in Photoshop - and I have removed the outer, ugly, plastic frame too (very little of it was showing up anyway) and the dark bubbles at the bottom.
