It is November 16! I was not expecting to be taking snowshots this early in the 2014-2015 winter season. Not that I'm complaining mind you...

Actually, this is the first time I've had the chance to shoot *any* train pictures in nearly 2 months! (Meaning that I pretty much missed the fall leaves)

Returning from taking my daughter back to Missouri S&T and after misfiring on attempts to shoot 3 other trains, I finally had some good fortune and good timing. I rolled up to the 5th Street bridge over the UP (ex-MoPac) Jefferson City Sub in Eureka, MO about 2 minutes before the westbound Amtrak #313 Missouri River Runner zipped through this pristine, untouched snow scene that was only a few hours old. With the cloudy day, there was only about 5 minutes of light left.

Oh, and that's also AMTK #406 one of Amtrak's few remaining F40PHs (now rebuilt F40PHR) which sports Amtrak's Phase III Heritage Scheme and normally runs with the Exhibit Train.

❄️First Snow of 2021!!❄️

So I'm low key proud of these!! It was the first snow storm of 2021 and I really wanted to try night photography in the snow!

I went to a local business park where my friend has her business so I felt relatively safe and like I wasn't going to be murdered!!

I was super happy to be able to shoot using the available light from the street lamps! I actually did pack my external studio flashes though was super nervous about using them in the snow cuz they aren't weather sealed. Really happy they could stay in the car--one less thing to carry around!!

I stuffed my camera in one of those rain-resistant bags, set up my tripod, and had a blast!! I ended up shooting mostly at 180mm for the more narrow field of view, otherwise you'd see the business park building around me which weren't terribly photogenic nor interesting.

It did mean at times I had to set up the tripod like across the parking lot and had to climb over a snow-mountain from the plows!! Let me tell you, climbing a snow mountain in heels is no bueno!! Sigh, the things I do for the fashion and for the shoot! 😜

Hope you like these pics!!! I'd love to hear what you think!!

Take care of you!!!

W&LE SD40-2 #6354, movie star from "Unstoppable," is seen sitting on the Westland Branch with WE643. In the background is the arriving WE212 which will hand off empties for for WE643 to take to Westland for loading.

With a strong sustained winds and heavy snowfall, a strong winter storm is well underway in west-central Minnesota. A coal train approaches Perham, MN. A shot like this really showcases the reduced visibility the area is experiencing right now.

With spots seeing 8"-10" of snow and up to 6"-8" more inches forecast by tomorrow afternoon this storm really packed a punch to the area.

It's been several years since a snowstorm has hit the area like this one has.

#4004 switches AVR's customer International Paper near Gambles, Pa.

Heading back to Buffalo & Pittsburgh rails in New Castle, Pa is a BPRR coal drag being led by three B&P SD40-3s over the former Pittsburgh & Lake Erie mainline in downtown Pittsburgh.

Two GP35-3s idle in the snow covered fields of Western Pennsylvania as they wait for their track warrant back into Rook Yard. In reality, these are two MTH O Scale Premeir GP35s and the scene is the former Champion Coal Washer sight on the old Montour Railroad.

Paralleling Pa Route 50, SD40-2 #6352 leads WE212 through Rea, Pa.

SD40-2 #6353 and SD40-3 #4001 rumble along Hickory Siding and past the site of the former P&WV passenger station as the rear of the train is still seen exiting Hickory Tunnel.

SD40-2 #6352 and SD40-3 #4001 lead WE212 east through Avella and over "Cross Creek" as it roars through town fighting the grade towards Hickory, Pa.

WE212 roars east through the small village of Woodrow, Pa.

WE643 passes over the Westland Branch on the W&LE mainline as it heads to the junction of the Westland Branch known as George Transfer, where WE643 will reverse direction and head towards Westland Yard.

#4003 brings up the rear of WE643 as it crosses over Southview Road on the W&LE mainline.

AVR-3 rumbles through Gambles, Pa with just 3 cars today on the old Baltimore & Ohio's former "Pike."
