Deep wind-blown snowdrifts near the Gate Inn, Cutthorpe.
This was nothing compared to some of the drifts we saw further out in the Peak District. It seems most cross Pennine routes are blocked at the moment.
An old fence burried under massive snowdrifts reemerges as the warm sun effects a rapid snow melt on this February Sunday on Prince Edward Island. The rusting fence wire is the exact same colour as the rusty red soild that predominate here, grains of which, blown by the wind, are apparent against the bright white snow beneath.

Snowdrifts reach the roof as members of New York Air National Guard from the 107th Airlift Wing based in Niagara Falls, N.Y., assist in snow removal efforts from the roof of the Eden Heights Assisted Living Facility in West Seneca, N.Y., Nov. 19. The facility, like much of Western New York in Erie County, experienced historic levels of lake effect snowfall that paralyzed the City of Buffalo and area roads, businesses and communities. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo directed the mobilization of more than 240 National Guard Soldiers and Airmen from area units to assist local authorities with snow removal or traffic control as regions of Western New York see more than six feet of snowfall in just 72 hours. the Plympton-Wyoming Caterpillar 928G Payloader was employed for 6 hours clearing this section of road from a substantial drift after a 3 day blizzard. The snow in that spot was just too deep for the regular plows. (Plympton-Wyoming, Lambton County, Ontario)
It is spectacular what a little wind & snow can produce. This drift is along the fence line, and it is 6 feet at its highest point and curves dramatically around our back deck. Mother Nature is truly phenomenal!

12/27/2010 - After a night of howling winds and freezing temperatures, I was left with a lot of shoveling and some really cool looking 4 foot high snow drifts.

We decided to dig our neighbours out up Jerusalem Road, Linthwaite, Huddersfield, one of the roads that leads to the crossroads that our yard is on. The lads were scattering salt behind the JCB so that we coulc keep uphill traction on a very icy surface
