Sony A7r3 - finished in Luminar

I arrived looking for Kingfishers and this guy was just sitting out on a post really close. After taking some shots he dived in, got this fish and then luckily went straight back up to a nearby branch very close. Sometimes they seem to fly off a long way to eat but I got lucky and was very close.

Using a Canon R7 so an effective focal length of 1,280mm with a big Canon 400mm f2.8 handheld. I wanted to see gow well the 2x teleconverter retained detail.

Out this last Thursday looking for some (forecast) snow, it turned out we arrived a day too early.

In this distinctly un-snowy scene, Northern's 12.18 Leeds - Manchester Victoria service (2M10) crosses the Rochdale Canal just north of Walsden in the picturesque Calder Valley on a typically damp winter's day up there.

The railway burrows through the hill in the right distance by way of the 1.6 mile long Summit Tunnel. Built between 1838 and 1841 it's one of the oldest railway tunnels in the world but is probably better known for the serious petrol tanker train incident on 20th December 1984 where the resulting fire and explosions saw flames rising almost 150 feet out of some ventilation shafts, and where the damage was so extensive it caused the tunnel to be closed for 8 months while repairs took place. The whole event makes for fascinating reading, as well as talking to the bravery of the train crew and emergency services ..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summit_Tunnel_fire

On a happier subject, eagle eyed viewers might spot companion snapper for the day who is also in position ..........

Here's a side view of this bruiser Common snapping turtle moving next to the boardwalk. I don't know how large their range is nor if they would tolerate other 'snappers' in their territory. I've seen two others this year at two different places, but have no clue if they are the same.

This beauty was found on the road near Warings Pond in Prince Edward County

Yes, snapper burgers. I've never tasted a better fish! And this one was so fresh. Caught and enjoyed by the family all in one afternoon.

Scene of a recent murder, this coastline contains some amazing canyons.

Who thought snapper could be so much fun when they see themselves reflected in the fisheye lens!

I like his crooked smile!
