Last photo in a series of 4. It's a very lively snail now.

...because I was : "to retreat into one's shell" this year.

According to the woman the snail shell pieces are from a 30+ necklace that belonged her grandfather, a shaman. It appears it was restored more recently and the cotton was replaced.

White-lipped Banded Snail. (Cepaea hortensis) or Brown-liped Banded Sail (Cepaea nemoralis)

Snails have 4 tentacles, two small ones for feeling and smell two larger for seeing, although they have poor vision.

Snails feed by scraping a ribbon-like tongue covered in horny teeth called a radula, over their food.

Went on a walk again today and found this peculiar site. Kind of a fun find. :)

We have dozens of spiders that make nests within their cobweb by curling up a leaf to act as a hide or shelter but occasionally we see one who has used a discarded snail shell, somehow they haul it up into the foliage and make it their own special place. Who says insects are not clever? Brilliant utilisation of resources. Once there they wait and when an insect hits their web dive out and dispatch or catch their lunch

Butterfly and Snail shells / Papillon et coquilles d'escargots

I only saw the tiny empty snail shell when I cropped the photo ;-) The centipede is about 2-3 cm in length. Found under a flower pot on the patio.

Last night was an opportunity to try out various forms of studio lights at our photographic society meeting. I used LED lights for some shots of small objects I brought with me.
