Another photo I took some time ago and never uploaded to Flickr.

Arranged only three weeks ago, the pretty riverside wild flowers and berries were softly colouring the last days of summer in the warmth of central France. There's a distinctly Autumnal feel this morning on the South Coast here in U.K. - this seems a world away now.

Venus Comb Shell. So called because the god Venus supposedly used it to comb her hair. These ancient people will believe anything :-)

How does a snail shell look like when you light the inside with a small flashlight?

i tried it out and here's the result!

snail graveyard.

The rule is, if you watch any TV that's not at a normal "wind-down" time, you have to be off your ass and moving.

Looks like I'm personally assembling the dossier he'll take to his future shrink.

Shell from one of my aquariums that dissolved almost entirely over one year...

These beautiful shells were all over the place, most inhabited by hermit crabs. When you get down and really look at what you are stepping over it can be pretty amazing.

Someone told me I should try taking pictures of my backyard - which is extraordinarily plain, lifeless, and small - and see what interesting things I could make out of it.

It was fun.

Sometimes it's the smallest details that make you happy. Small details that lift up your heart. If you have ever been in love or loved or experienced your dreams come true, you know what I mean.

It is the small touches, kisses, breezes, smells, words, sounds and sights that come to mind first without trying.

This is my ode to small things.

I had a fabulous day with the ones I love and this small thing was part of it.

Garden snail (Cornu aspersum). Used to be Helix aspersa, but some classification pen-pusher got bored :-)

stareing up at you!

Since taking a class in macro offered by Kathy Eyster at the Kanuga Photography Retreat several years ago, I've wanted a light table. That desire's been on my mind rather frequently of late.

While on my walk early this morning the thought crossed my mind that my deck has a glass top. Two flashlights and a piece of copy paper later I was in business. I need to perfect my system, but I derived real pleasure playing with this snail shell (about an inch long) Tal found over the weekend while workiing in a flower bed.

I spotted this as we took a short cut across a field this afternoon. I don't know if it is an empty shell or a live snail - I left it alone so as not to disturb it if it was still alive.

This was my first outdoor macro photo. The shell was smaller than a dime when I found it.
