Bit of fun with a 'smudge stick' version of the previous photo. Rumex acetosella at Dawlish Warren, Devon. (Looks better larger ... I think!)

Celebration

Got back from our Southwest Photo Tour with Ricky. It was a great trip and Kevin and I took a lot of Photos. You can see my photos on my flickr site: www.flickr.com/photos/needlepointernc

We went to visit the El Santuario De Chimayo Shrine on our way back to La Veta from Santa Fe. It is a site where Pilgrims come to be healed. I brought home a smudge stick, some Holy Dirt, and a Milagro. I had not been feeling well before the trip and am now celebrating that I am feeling better.

"Smudging is the common name given to the indigenous American tradition known as the Sacred Smoke Bowl Blessing. This is a powerful spiritual cleansing technique which calls upon the spirits of various sacred plants to drive away negative energy and to restore balance to an individual, a group, a space, or all three."

I lit my smudge stick and collecting the ashes in a pottery dish that my Mom made in High School.

I used some Lightroom presets, several textures in PS, and added a border in ON1.

Headed down the hill and around the curve, this is one of my favorite views. It is a magnificent panorama of hills and valleys. With no traffic behind me, I stopped and took a windshield shot, trying to show the greening of the hills. The focus was a bit soft, so I also used a couple of different Photoshop filters on these photos. They are all posted here.

In NC, using profane language on the highway is a class 3 misdemeanor. So go ahead and arrest me because all I could say after Lucinda Williams's NC Museum of Life concert was "Fuck, that was good. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. That was GOOOOD!" I altered this image in Photoshop using the smudgestick and watercolor filters, added speckles and noise, then messed around with the curves and hues for a posterlike effect.
