November 14: It's a gloriously warm and sunny day, and I'm feeling blessed. Still crazed, but nevertheless blessed. These smudge sticks--bundles of sage wrapped in embroidery thread--sit in a glass on our mantel, giving constant blessing to the room, and our house. I've never had the heart to burn them; they're too pretty. So today I paid attention to them by taking pictures.

Filter: "Smudge Stick"

I took this picture at a Georgia Tech vs. Maryland Terrapins game last weekend at Bobby Dodd stadium in Atlanta. I wanted it to look more like a painting, so I did all my usual editing and then used the artistic filter, smudge stick to finish it.

I got this beautiful earthenware pottery from MG's mom. Smudge Stick Filter overlayed. Shot on a dinner napkin with leftover holiday ribbon.

I figured, why not make your own?

March 4: I'm coddling myself today--again. This morning I wandered around looking for things to take pictures of. These smudge sticks were in my last Project 365. Today I was thinking about the woman who gave them to me, someone I didn't know well but whose spirit I really enjoyed. We've lost touch, which is what happens in life. It's kind of odd to think of all the dozens, even hundreds of people who were there for an instant, and who left me some memories, however slight. Like smoke.

Applied smudge stick to the original image. I like the way the leaves stand out in this version, and that they have retained much of the original colour tones

Smudge sticks nestling with a spindle I picked up at a textile mill in England a few years back. Some of my "precious things."

About 44% smudgestick filter for glossy effect. Taken in Bethesda, Maryland.

I've been sitting on this series of shots for a long time. The scene puts me in a mind of fall, but it was actually taken in July (2009). I really liked the light shining off this little stream, but it was dark in the woods. When I got home, I saw that the shot was too blurry from camera movement. So, I decided to play with some of the Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 filters to try and salvage it. These are four filtered shots posted in this series.

I used the smudgestick filter here. This is a view of the sun going behind the island of Lana'i taken from the Old Lahaina Luau.

ODC~ Entropy

I would say this is pretty much dispersed, done for, useless..... I totally agree with people about the definition of Entropy being a total yawn. This was edited in Photoshop CS5 with "Smudgestick"

I'm super excited I found my branch for the totem meditation stick this morning at Big Trees park. It's an eucalyptus branch I found on the ground. I've placed it on the fireplace mantle with my smudge stick, abalone shell, and turkey vulture feather until I gather up more items to symbolize my journey and animal.

Great for your smudging rituals, this small smudge stick has been created of out of bundled blue sage. 5"

This is the launch that follows the pre-launch shot (prior to these 2 in my photostream).

I've shared two versions of the launch shot because u nfortunately the camera focus didn't keep up with her. I salvaged them with a couple of Photoshop Filters.

When I take a shot that I like, but is disappointingly not up to quality standards, I enjoy trying to make it better through digital editing. It is a nice challenge.

I harvest lavender for its incredible fragrance. The dried leaves and flowers are used for making dream pillows. The stems are used in smudge sticks.
