Sweet violets, sweeter than all the roses
covered all over from head to toe
covered all over with sweet violets
My Mother used to sing this to me when she took me out to search for the tiny flowers growing wild under hedgerows in Kent. The photo was taken in my garden this morning...oh joy to spot it self-sown in a bowl among sedums on the water butt.
I was born in May, and so was my first child, Candida, to whom I would also sing this little verse. Her birthday is today, so it seems especially appropriate to dedicate this image to her.
Cleaning my kitchen today and thinking about the week 3 theme: Small things. This is a macro of the inside wall of my microwave.
I never imagined to look at grasses like this.
Here is an insect collecting pollen from grasses in the Meadow.

Debarked tree root with bark and leaves, near Batemans Bay.
Actually on a punishing track that took us out to a wind-tossed headland. We stood on what I am sure was a crumbling edge & looked down on waves crashing over a rock platform way below. All the vegetation was stunted. What surprised me about this root sticking up out of the track (note the photographer's foot with sore toe) was that it had bark so was more like part of the trunk or a branch. Stringy bark do this - push their branches underground - as a conservation strategy, so perhaps this tree was doing similar.

Fashion trip (1 of 3) window shopping (Adelaide CBD)
Showing the enduring influence of Vivienne Westwood. How many decades ago did she first turn inner wear into high fashion outer wear?

Sometimes small things
Can change the way you feel about life
And it's all so different now
You make it so clear
Whenever you're near
I've opened my eyes
Seen the dawn in a deep blue sky
We could fly we could try
To be something special girl
Something beautiful
Sweet joy
I like it sweet joy you bring
Don't change it one single thing ...

Bull ants - from somewhere around Exmouth, Western Australia..
According to the Australian Museum, they are "large, alert ants that can grow up to 40 mm (more than one and a half inches [1.5748 inches]), with characteristic large eyes, long, slender mandibles (jaws) and a potent venom-loaded sting. I can attest to the sting bit.

Sent an old fashioned textmessage to my wife since I had to leave home for work darn early today.
The text is on the back, stating that the brewer is loaded an o/n oats ready in the fridge.
Better than the modern version for sure.
Happy wife, happy life.

Day 13/365
Week 3 Theme
Small Things (Jan 11 - Jan 17)
It is a small thing but it has become a fun daily event wondering if the albino pigeon will show up today. Any distraction of a positive sort is such a blessing.
Has the world gone mad, or is it me?
All these small things they gather round me
Gather round me
Is it all so very bad, I can’t see
Oh all these small things they gather round me
Gather round me
And I can't see.
- Ben Howard 'Small Things'

Fashion trip (2 of 3) window shopping (Adelaide CBD)
Have to say I think Dior made a poor choice here! Hopefully before his domestic violence case gained traction in the courts. Real men don't beat up on women.
