Uncommon bird in Amazonia. Closely associated with water. Usually seen perched at margins of oxbow lakes, forest streams, swamps and other wetlands in Amazonian forest.
I discovered a new treasure in my archives. I didn't notice this species in my check list. So happy as it's a real beautiful bird.
What an epic bird. I drove overnight 550 miles for this and then back home the same day. Mindy and I missed it last year when we came too late after it finished nesting (paired with the Painted Redstart), and we searched unsuccessfully for the family group for five hours. So it was very rewarding to get this up-close experience a year later. It is building a nest 300 yds up the canyon. I was the only one there all morning -- just me and the bird. A super special experience.

Left abandoned when the quarry finally closed. Just another pile of waste slate waiting to be tipped. Slowly rotting away against the harsh Welsh climate. It won't be long before it joins the many more dotted around the quarry heaped into a pile.
This species is a member of the New World Warblers, related to many neotropical migrants that breed in Canada and the USA. Slate-throated Redstarts, however, are resident only in Central America. Those colours certainly give the birds a tropical flavour. (Some sources refer to these birds as Slate-throated Whitestarts.)
Lot's of various slate shapes big and small scattered around the old slate buildings and yard at inigo jones.

This image was taken inside an abandoned slate quary.
It was closed in 1985.
The lower levels are filled by water and I think they are a must-see destination for every cave diver.
Escpecially with all the relicts from past times.
Fortunatly there is a lot of stuff to discover in the upper levels.
I had a wonderful photo tour which was very interessting.
Our guides had more dedication, passion, knowledge and humor than I would ever expect.

Dieses Bild ist in einem stillgelegten Schieferbergwerk aufgenommen.
Das Bergwerk ist seit 1985 nicht mehr in Betrieb.
Die unteren Ebenen sind mit Wasser vollgelaufen und ich glaube sie sind eine Top Attraktion für jeden Höhlen Taucher.
Besonders weil dort unten noch reichlich Relikte aus vergangenen Tagen zu finden sind.
Zum Glück gibt es in den oberen Ebenen aber auch genug zu entdecken.
Ich hatte eine wundervolle Phototour, die mir wahnsinnigen Spass gemacht hat und dabei auch noch total interessant war.

Slate-colored juncos usually arrive in small flocks. I see them scratching around on the ground for seeds dropped from the feeders. This little junco, however, found its own source of seeds and seemed to have no problem balancing on the weed and eating at the same time.

Slate and steel steps outside the welsh national assembly building in Cardiff. Installed the trial version of CS4 and this one has been through a couple of experiments with blend modes but nothing major, oh and a bit of blurry stuff.
Five turritella seashells on a piece of natural slate. The largest shell is 5 cm long, the shortest (foreground) is just under 2 cm.
A 27 frame focus stack, lit by natural window light. Processed in Helicon Focus, converted to mono in Silver Efex Pro. Sharpening and clarity in Lightroom.

I loved this slate fence which is used by a farmer at the North end of the Nant Ffrancon Valley , here in Snowdonia
