Slash and burn agriculture "tavy" is responsible for the continuing deforestation of Madagascar. This was happening right on the edge of Montagne d'Ambre National Park - "protected" areas are not fully protected from tavy and illegal logging.

As promised the closer photo of the slash burn. Its had to shoot a long exposure .6 seconds with at 300mm without a tripod, but it turned out fairly sharp. I got down on my belly, and shot from the ground to get better support. I hope to get a tripod soon which would make slow long shots like this one a lot easier.
