If a cormorant is out of the water, it will spread its wings to dry off. On this morning, however, they were still dry.

These birds spend a lot of time under the water catching food. It's a little ironic that they even though they have feathers, they are excellent swimmers and spend a lot of time underwater. When they are fishing, you might only see their snake-like head and neck pop-up for air. We also have snakes in the water, so seeing a Cormorant's head pop-up might give you pause.

Just as often they'll sit on a low branch or along the shoreline with their wings outstretched. Initially, I thought that it was to ward off predators by making themselves seem more prominent. But in fact, it's to dry their feathers which are not as water repellant as other birds like ducks or pelicans.

Jumping Spider

Capture of a jumping spider that was wandering around the house, image was captured with a Nikon D610, Sigma 150mm Macro, ISO 1250, f/5.6, 1/250 seconds and consists of around 5 - 6 photos which were captured in rapid shutter mode and stacked using Helicon Focus. I finished off by editing the photo in Skylum's Luminar 4 (AI Enhance), Topaz Denoise, Topaz Sharpen and enlarged in Topaz Gigapixel (4x) before cleaning up the image (in-painting tool) in Affinity Photo (and doing some cropping). I have probably pushed the image a bit far in terms of enlarging as it is starting to show artifacts.

The Milky Way Core

Having another go at re-processing the core of the Milky Way to get used to the software – since i am still very new at Astrophotography and all its intricacies, this was about 5 images (in reality needed way more) which were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker (DSS) before being edited in Lightroom and being further touched up in Luminar 2018 (Image Enhancer & some minor AI Boosts)
