Part of the significant geomagnetic storm observing in Puget Sound on evening of 5/10 morning of 5/11. Taken in Mt. Vernon, WA.
The Internationsal Space Station streaks low across a hazy summer sky. The high humidity makes the skyglow more apparent than usual in this long exposure.

There's an extremely faint galaxy just to the right, below the center of the image, and a brighter galaxy further to the right, above the center of the image.
385x30sec exposures for a total of 3.2 hrs combined exposure.

A view of the Myrdalsjökull ice cap in the distance to the southeast from Sveinstindur mountain at Langisjor lake. At center is the Moon setting, at half full phase. Note all of the mountain ridges line towards the southwest, as the lake itself does.
The melody from Dvorak's New World Symphony plays at 6pm each night of the week, all year around, it seems. This photo is an hour later than the playback, but does record commuters returning to their homes via this main shopping street of the old city center.
I definitely win the award for the least charismatic image and maybe for the most "deep field".

The view across the tracks is the shopping street, Zenkouji-dori, at city center and a steady stream of cars flows back home. Over the rooftops at far right are the illuminated characters for Hayashi Hospital, one of the two large ones at city center. The convex mirrored surface of the building makes fun-house reflections of the surrounding subjects.

Under their sheltering awning this faithful dispenser of thirst-quenching cool or throat warming hot flavors are colorful subjects on the subdued colors of the streetscape. The blinking lights are eye-catching, too. Thankfully there are no sounds to go with the lights, though. Nationally, somewhere many years ago I read of a measurable about of the national energy consumption goes to (outdoor) vending machines - keeping the cans and bottles cold or hot, according to the labeled buttons, rain or shine, night or day, winter or summer. And there once was a sojourner around the islands who was able to sweep stray coins from some of the machines to afford daily expenses! Watch out for the passing bicyclist at the end of the clip.
The lamps along the Bandai Bridge over the Hino River catch the outlines of some of the 100 or more bats feasting on the winged insects rising up from the waters, in spite of buffeting wind. The last traces of the evening skyglow touch the horizon.

The weeks leading up to the winter solstice place the morning sun very low on the horizon, resulting in blinding beams at daybreak (around 8 a.m.) and before nightfall (around 3:30 p.m.). In compensation for the extreme angles of light now, there corresponding solstice of summer will have very high angles of morning and evening light, with skyglow (half-light) and sunlight extending maybe 19 or 20 hours per day. The turret of the new extension of the National Museum of Scotland stands in the distance, left of center.
