Has photography made me more observant? I wonder at that as I see beautiful sky-scapes like this one, and then seethe folks on the same train I'm on looking at their books, cell phones, newspapers... anything *but* looking out the window. Perhaps I'm just as unobservant as ever, and this was a day when I managed a glance at the right time.

9/14/2013. This was taken During a 15 mile Bike ride along the Canal from Washington's Crossing to New Hope/Lambertiville. This was on the New Jersey side, which is also the nicer side for Biking/Walking the Canal.
Clouds moving in as the sandstorm continues. It was clear overhead but incredibly windy with low visibility on the ground. Taken near the mouth of Golden Canyon.

Whether the volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajoekull was responsible or not for this gorgeous sunset over Larkfield Tarn this particular Saturday evening is open to question. However, the lack of a single contrail is directly attributable! Very unusual for this sky-scape when looking in this direction.

Is it sky reflected in sea or vice-verse?
It's simple sky scape taken in evening & inverted vertically. The white line in bottom is of a smoke left by jet.
When I tire of driving, my wife takes the wheel and I hang out the window snapping pictures. These "drive by shootings" were taken in South Dakota on Interstate 90.One thing about flat country like this is you can see forever and the right clouds can make for some nice sky scapes with interesting light and shadow patterns..

AS Final Piece, Sky scape. Firstly I sketched, using biro, the areas and shading of the sky and clouds, then I used various bits of recycled paper that I ripped and stuck on top. After that I layered on acrylic paint.

This is the reason the world loves California, or maybe it's why Californians love California... Shot taken at Laguna Beach.
A Sikorsky S-58JT heavy-lifter delicately raises a roof-top HVAC between narrowly separated Chicago Loop high-rises. This is precision work indeed, the smallest unexpected blast of wind can undo more than just the piece of equipment at the bottom of the tow rope. This is a typical Chicago scene, see also: www.flickr.com/photos/9360144@N07/15453825435/in/photolis...
Needless to say, the operation was viscerally noisy, especially as the surrounding towers amplified and echoed the helicopter engine and rotor sounds. What was amazing to me is how so many people just kept walking down the street, without ever looking up to see what the hell was going on overhead.
