Shooting the Square Mile (1/24)
I've been looking forward to my day out improving my photography and 'Shooting the Square Mile' under the expert guidance of Platform 39. As luck will have it the day is wet. This is a challenge but it is also an opportunity.
On the way to our meeting place I take a couple of practice shots to get the feel of the day. My opening shot is from the top deck of a 21 bus at Old Street roundabout. The buildings on the other side of the roundabout are the Bezier Apartments, 2010, designed by T P Bennet (and on the Carbuncle Cup shortlist).
Help is available for people who have been in touch with the justice system to improve their chances of finding work to reconnect to communities, improve lives and cut reoffending.
North Ayrshire Justice Services Employability Mentor gives advice to a client about support available to help her attend a training course. The aim of the Employability Mentor Programme is to improve people’s lives, to gain skills that will help them reintegrate into the community and break down barriers to reduce reoffending. If someone is successful in getting work, volunteering, or training opportunities, then employability funds can be used to support their initial travel or with materials and clothing if needed.

A session at the Glen Isla Project in Angus provides the opportunity for skills development with a sewing lesson
The Glen Isla Project in Angus is specifically for women. They're able to engage with local communities and projects through various initiatives including a music class, DIY, sewing and ‘bonding squares’ for parents of new-born babies in Special Care Baby Units.
These activities increase the women’s mental and physical wellbeing, equip them with new skills and raise their confidence and self-esteem.
The project provides counselling sessions on a 1:1 basis and as a group supports the women to look at the issues affecting their offending behaviour.
The project is also proactive at engaging with local communities to provide opportunities for the women to ‘payback’ to the community through various initiatives,
It also increases women’s mental and physical wellbeing, and their ability to use new skills they have learned such as DIY, playing musical instruments and sewing/dressmaking

Glen Isla Projects
The Glen Isla (Statutory group) & Glen Clova Projects (Voluntary groups) (women only) work with several third sector agencies at bases in Montrose and Forfar, leased from the sector.
Workers represent the Projects alongside voluntary colleagues at various working groups and Glen Clova has a member of staff seconded from one of the agencies.
In January 2021, the Glens Projects set up a service user consultation group to offer the women taking part an opportunity to contribute to service design and delivery in Angus. The group are also invited to take part in other surveys and consultations eg Mental Health Provision in Tayside.
The women said they felt respected and included by being given the opportunity to voice their views and they hoped their comments would help shape and design services for the future.
