On the third day, we parked at Edelweiss on Goat Creek Road, and skied the loop from the parking to Mazama store to Goat Wall loop to Goat Creek (blue) Goat Creek Cutoff (black, omg) and back to the car. We saw beautiful forest, gorgeous homes, open fields and a beautiful suspension bridge.
I worked abroad, doing a ski season. This is a friend of mine who is a very talented skier. I have edited it to brighten up his skis and the other colours in the picture
Descent from Vallettes jut to the valley. What had looked like a beautiful 800m descent started with crust, then moved on to slab (which cracked loudly and dropped as Simon skiied on to it) and finished with a very narrow path through trees.

I parked myself right below the hardest gate on the course and let them come to me...
Back then, we used to ski on long, thin skis 200 to 210 cm, depending on whether the ski was a slalom (short radius turns) or a giant slalom (long radius turns) ski. The technique was much harder to master than it is today. Like all sports, skiing went through improvements that made it possible for a lot of so-so skiers to look good. Nothing beats technique and mileage.
