Mowgli sketches-compare1

The first set of Mowgli Sketches of which I would plan 9 of them. *whew*

Panel 1- The first panel to presumably inspire me to do the whole series of these Mowgli drawings that I would end up doing & this was a good first start. It could use a bit more detail, but I’m proud of the result.

Panel 2- Another one which shows him backed into a corner. I like the pose in this as well as the sense of awareness that the character is getting into.

Panel 3- Mowgli presumably eating dinner & this was the 1st one to have objects in the way, in this case it was the feet & I had to try a draw them exposed, and I think it looks okay even if the toes are a bit ugly.

Panel 4- Mowgli unconscious on the floor & I used it because it looked interesting & I liked the pose.

Panel 5- Same as above, but in a different position. I had a hard time doing the rest of the feet of course.

Panel 6- Mowgli standing up in a sort of a Gentleman, but Authoritarian stature which I respect.

Panel 7- My Favorite panel of the set, because I like the serenity & calmness that it represents. And I also like the way I did the face.

Panel 8- Same as the other one, but with the head tilted up. Did this cuz of the different pose & stuff.

Panel 9- Mowgli in his cage. I think I might’ve done his back a bit too thin, but I like how I did his hans & wrists covered behind the iron bar.

Panel 10- Mowgli just running and I like running stances as it adds activity to the character. I also had a hard time adding the details to the sole of His Right Foot & went too much on the design, so I simply went with a backwards ‘S’ shape to it and left it as it is now.

Panel 11- Mowgli jumping above a log & once again the pose was good cuz it had a bit of Action Movie style to it. The rest of the hair was a bit difficult as well as the left hand & his fingers to the right which took quite a long while. Probably the longest one I had to work with in this set cuz I suck at hands.

Panel 12- Another Mowgli standing shot. Took it cuz of the pose & the sense of curiosity that he feels.

Panel 13- Mowgli in the cage again. Did this because of the loneliness & innocence of the character.

Panel 14- Mowgli struggling with the iron bars. I liked the sense of strength in him & the pose.

Panel 15- Same one as above but in different struggling pose. Also had a tough time with the hair in both shots as my monitor is a bit dark to handle with.

Panel 16 & 17- Mowgli still stuck in his cage. I liked both of these, especially the innocence portrayed in the 16th panel. It was pretty hard to remove them bars & stuff.

Panel 18- Mowgli reaching for the keys to set him free. For some reason, I gave inadvertently gave him Psycho Eyes or something, but it was just the pupils.

Panel 19- Mowgli also trying to reach the keys. His toes looked a bit weird & floppy, but they were drawn that way so I left it as it is. Wished that I’d done the rest of his left fingers, but eh, the pose was good.

Panel 20- Mowgli STILL in his cage. This was much like the 16th panel, but I like how he ‘huddles’ in this one, so I kept in here.

South of town there is a grove of trees in the middle of a field. In the winter, it looks like an island with the snow banked all around. (I think this sketch actually gains something in large size.)

Also, you maybe wondering why the gesture seems vaguely familiar. I learned how to draw landscapes by studying Rembrandt for years. I love his quick pen gestures.

Italy, Venice, Italy, illustrator drawing a sketch of the Canal Grande at the corner of the vegetable market near the Ponte Rialto.

The lagoon city hides many picturesque places offside the tourist roads. If the buildings would be straight, painted & well maintained, I think Venice without this patina, the gondolas & gondolieri, channels, little bridges & the at all-time busy Canal Grande; all these main ingredients altogether express the romantic charm of Venice.

Marty Nodell passed away the other day and he will be deeply missed. He created the original Green Lantern and I picked up this sketch from him a few years ago.

My daughter drew the flowers. It seems that she was interested in the flower vase of transparent glass.

It is a sketch of a wetland nature preservative where I live. There are plenty of wild geese, ducks and other water birds migrating here and stay in the wetland every summer, and lots of enthusiastic bird-watchers equipped with fancy gadgets including professional cameras and camcorders coming to the view.

Last Thursday I went to the hairdresser and while I had to wait for the coloring to set in I made some pen sketches of the doggy. Back home I scanned the drawings from my sketchbook to turn them into this A5 size print.

Since my childhood, drawing has always been a passion, but when I discovered photography, I thought that the combination of these two passions would allow me to give free rein to my imagination.

In this series "The sketch of a life", I wanted to illustrate my life, like my sketches gave birth to each of his actions or by the intervention of someone I are close (for exemple in "sketch your mentor" with the intervention of my grandmother who taught me in the drawing), or events that have been important to me (like in "sketch the life" with the birth my daughter "Cataleya"), but also with something a little more humorous (in "Catch & Sketch" for example with the intervention of my friend Cal Redback, or in "sketch and fight" with the artist Ben Heine, where you can see the battle of two artists with each his technique)

The sketching setting was so good we both forgot about the crowd and noises. SUSHI GALA restaurant owner even brought out a beer. The visitors were all very supportive and Rachel cranked out an excellent sketch. To pay back our respect, we decided to have lunch right here. Ramen, sashimi and curry ... but no more beer. I was getting tipsy!
