A definite "Young Americans" lounge-lizard vibe to this one.

Buena Vista Heritage Museum

Kind of had my own personal sketch crawl on Friday. I headed down to Buena Vista on my motorcycle, ahead of MB. I spent the larger part of the day in "downtown" BV, such as it is, doing some sketching.

This is a really old building that most likely used to be the courthouse in Buena Vista (I took a lot of time drawing it, but not much time researching it). It does have a foundation, but I'm too crappy with scale to have started the drawing out properly (see the next in the series for another example).

Sketch portrait of Jill Harding for JKPP. Made in the Paper app, I used only the pencil tool. Also used the iOS zoom workaround to get a bit more detail.

Graphite on paper

I've decided to upload my sketches . I work slowly on finished, "official", long term drawings, seldom uploading them to flickr. But despite my slow working methods I sketch A LOT. I've decided to make a log of sorts, which I can update when I feel like it.

This way people can see my art in a more intimate way that can't really be seen with finished works in paint. I strongly believe in sketches and their spiritual quality. Painting is based almost entirely on drawing - color is the only added dimension. Drawing is the humble, underrated genesis of masterworks. People forget that Madame X, the last supper, and David all began with a sketch. If you want to see an artist's true capabilities look to their sketches - a true master can say just as much, if not more, in a few pencil strokes, than a technical draftsmen.

A WWII picture - Daddy certainly brightens up this scene with that handsome Coast Guard uniform. I have it hanging in a guest bedroom upstairs. Had it dry cleaned. They took such care preserving it!

^_^ my first sketch upload. bought myself a wacom. I am a noob, my pencil work was getting better but using a wacom takes a bit of time. This is a new album where I draw stuff and write quotes :)

Small sketches on the road to the garden. On the return, a beautiful sunset, trafic jams, and a small truck with his tools on the back, rattling.

Petits croquis sur la route du jardin. Sur le retour, un très beau coucher de soleil, des embouteillages, et un petit camion avec ses outils acrochés derrière.

The reason we have poverty is that we have no imagination. There are a great many people accumulating what they think is vast wealth, but it's only money. They don't know how to enjoy it, because they have no imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
