Evening Sketch, Place Emile Combes, the terrasse is nearly on the street :). Due to warmer temperature, the customers are back.

Croquis du soir, Place Emile Combes, la terrasse est presque sur la rue. Vue les températures clémentes, les terrasses se remplissent à nouveau.

I'm not very good with heights but managed to spend some time at the top of The Lighthouse to sketch a bit of the Glasgow skyline.

November afternoon , sketching assignment of building and vegetation

This is Cafe Nero, Didsbury. It's a busy view but I have restricted the watercolour palette and picked out highlights in cerulean blue and bright red. This sketch was done yesterday afternoon and took just under an hour and a half

Been a while since I uploaded any sketches. Here's one!

Landscape, Trees and Shrubs Practice

I have a real problem rendering landscape plants. So I've been promising myself to just concentrate on rendering plants and foliage on occasion. This is one of those occasions.

I started on the left page by practicing the "classic" foliage stroke. It's amazing how easy it is in some directions and almost impossible in others. (I need more practice -- perhaps filling a page of each direction.) Then, using Rendering in Pen and Ink by Guptill as a reference, I worked on some small scene renderings. All sketching on this page was done with a #0 Rapidograph (.35mm).

On the right page, I gave myself a reward and drew one of my favorite photos using a sepia Micron pen (.50mm). Then, I switched gears back to plant rendering, this time using a black Pitt brush pen at bottom right. I find the brush pen can create nice lines, but it is very hard for me to be precise with it. I guess more practice is needed, but I'm not sure it's meant to be used the way I'm using it -- seems as though it would be hard on the tip.

I lost myself with all these scans, so I go back:Day 11: Peugeot 404 flatbed still in the workshop. I admit that I was surprised and very happy with the result.

quick lunch time doodle, needed a bit of "me" time...always works!

Sketch of the evening: Construction is underway next to the place where I work. This time a view from far, from a field.

Croquis du soir : construction en cours juste à côté du lieu où je travaille. Cette fois-ci vue depuis le champ en friche.
