Downyflake's fur is long and silky. He sheds what looks like a blanket's worth every few days.

If anyone is wondering who is stealing all of the wildflowers in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado.......Here is your answer!!! It's FLYING PIKA time!!!!These tiny mighty mights, about 7.5 inches long, and faster than a speeding bullet, spend much of their waking hours gathering tundra grasses and wildflowers and other odd plants, to store away in their stash piles in the rocks for the winter months. This is by far my greatest challenge capturing Pika on the move. I will share many more images in the future.

The roads are bare - the sun is warm - the birds are returning - and the highway department has bucketed out the end of our driveway. That means that spring has definitely arrived in Alaska.

Our temperatures are warming to the low to mid-thirties during the day but dropping to single digits at night. This is the time of year to break out the camera gear, and photograph the snow-covered mountains, and slowly melting streams. April will arrive in one week, and it is one of the prettiest times of the year to enjoy the far north.

In this photo you see Mt. Drum - a peak that is part of the mighty Wrangell Mountains. I am so blessed to be able to enjoy this view each time I travel toward Glennallen. Come on up and see it for yourself.

A Mennonite young man rides their version of the family and farm truck. WIth single horsepower he was trotting along at a fairly fast clip.

Being the coordinator of t HTT group I designate this an official truck!

Happy Truck Thursday!

These guys are frequently seen during the cooler months of the year, like now. I was amazed yesterday when I went up in the woods, they were everywhere. I like taking photos of these guys but not when the forest floor is covered. They like Mossy areas which adds some degree of difficulty. Moss in my area usually grows over downed branches/trees. This was a 20 image stack taken with a higher ISO due to the ambient lighting. Perfect for the Dragan Effect (contrast)!
